1. I have a selection of used double bass strings of random and unknown brands which I am offering to anyone who wants them. You can take them all or cherry pick what you need. The strings would suit a luthier or teacher who maintains a stock of try out or get out of trouble strings.  I am not going to post them, so am asking anyone  interested in taking the strings to meet me at a coffee bar in London NW3 to pick and choose from the bunch. Thanks.

  3. Yes. The Japanese Bass Magazine. In Japanese. I know...From my bass nerd days. but these magazines are top notch even without a knowledge of the language. The photography, attention to detail and music transcriptions are second to none. They are all in excellent as new condition and some have CDs which typically illustrate a music lesson or a pedal shootout. The years 1996 - 2001 are complete. 1994 has 7 issues. 1995 has 11 issues, 2002 has 6 issues. Collection is preferred (London NW3) because, though A4 size, as a collection they are quite heavy. I can send them via courier if so desired, at extra cost for p/p and I will sell individual/selected issues from 1994, 1995 and 2002, but the rest will then be sold pro rata as complete years of 12 issues. (See? Still a nerd).

  4. I am dealing with the same problem and have chosen to go for the dowel option. The internet offers a variety of solutions for removing the damaged screw. (Stew Mac). Once you have removed the damaged screw, drill out the hole to the same diameter as the dowel. Measure the length of the dowel to accommodate the screw you will be using. Notch the length of the dowel to allow the glue to run out when you tap it in. If you have measured the length of the dowel accurately you will not need to do too much on the way finishing it (doh!) and it will fit so snuggly that it will not fall out at all - otherwise mask the wood/finish surrounding the filled hole and gently sand back the excess dowel wood- you will probably need to replace the masking tape many times to avoid cutting into the finish as it wears away very quickly. An interesting alternative to the dowel is to be found on Crimson Guitars website where Ben has used metal screw inserts and machine screws to secure the strap buttons. I hope this helps. MD.

  5. HI. On offer to Basschatters is an original Tom Scholz Rockman. The case is a bit scuffed and the battery compartment lid has a gouge in it where the previous owner messed it up trying to get it open. It seems as though the case has to be unscrewed a fraction to free the battery compartment lid. It was second-hand when I bought it and although I've had it a while, like most techno stuff I acquire, it ended up on a shelf - unused The best sound is an over the top distortion and so I think it might be useful as a kind of recording tool. The other sounds are clean and chorus. But the clean sounds through a basic earpiece as though the distorion has kicked in and the chorus is swamped by the distortion as well. Wicked... Anyway. If you decide to try this and you don't like it. I'll refund your money. £25.00 including batteries plus p/p. Thanks. Marcdan

  6. If you read his feedback you will see many very satisfied basschatters. I am pleased to be a member of that band. Thanks, Gareth. Bow and case arrived today perfectly wrapped and exactly as described. Fantastic. Happy New Year. Marcdan.

  7. I now have 8 unused Rotosound B strings (2 x 125 and 1 x 130) - all roundwound - to offer anyone who needs one or two for the price of the postage or personal collection from London NW3. They have been stored for a while but are otherwise ok. I also have 2 used B strings - one clipped short allowing minimal winding on the string post and one with no winding thread at either end. Postage in UK is around £3.50 for recycled packing materials and 1st Class Recorded Delivery (2nd Class is only marginally cheaper) - I will confirm exact p/p with the recipient of strings.

  8. I'm selling an unused set of Corelli/Savarez double bass strings, which I've had for a good few years as a back-up set. I don't need them and can't use them on my current 4/4 size bass. The G and D are medium and the A and E are strong (fort) - Refs 371M, 372M, 373TX and 374TX. £85.00 including postage, or personal collection from London NW3.

  9. Hi. Up for sale here is a small-scale Flea bass. It's in good condition, is set up nicely, sounds good, oh... and is orange (!). Great for small hands. This instrument is at The Gallery in Camden Town - please go to their website where there is a photo in the pre-owned section. Price is £250.00. Many thanks for looking.

  10.
Was wondering if anyone knows of DB hire in Scotland?

There is one place that charges £300/week but that is a tad ridiculous. Planning to phone Thwaites to see if they'll hire by post.

Else I suppose buying one is the next most logical option (ignoring borrow and steal!)! Ideally I'd like a bit more time on target before buying - or will that not really matter too much?
Hi. My friend Rick may be able to help you. He lives near Glasgow and is a freelance bass player - he hires out one of his basses. On one occasion to Gary Peacock. His email is [email protected]
