    Hi, thanks for the cool comments regarding ash and alder basses.

    Seems we all share the same experiences with the alder/ash comparison. I am looking forward to using this new bass.

    I like the neck on the bass, maple with perloid inserts, but think I would have preferred the black inserts that come with the

    vintage ones. But, I didn't fancy the bridge pickup being so close the the bridge. Makes it too toppy and thin and twangy in

    my opinion. So if I see a nice maple sire neck with black inlays, I might change mine as the old eyes aren't as good as 

    they used to be.

     

    Also, I have seen that a few people with sire basses (mostly on Youtube) have managed to change their knobs.... Vol, tone, etc

    for chrome ones. Anyone here know who might supply them?

    Hi,  got my new sire V7 bass last week. Sounds great!

    I'm a Fender/Alder man really. Have a few jazz basses and a few Precision basses all Alder as I do like the tone.

    I do find it hard to cut through the band sometimes and have some definition, clarity in the sound. So, thought I would try

    an Ash bass for a change. They are a tighter and more punchy in the lower mids as I hear it.

     

    Not played with the band yet with it, but, sounds very nice and funky at home.

     

    Just wondered if any you guys have thoughts, experience on the alder/ash comparison and choice.

    Hi,


    No one in the market for a decent 73 jazz then?


    As pointed out with this bass, the wiring for the pickups does not seem to be original.

    The pickups work fine but, may not be the originals.


    I am willing to reflect this in the price of the bass if anyone wishes to make a realistic offer?


    I see other 73 Fender jazz basses going for nearly twice what I am asking for this bass. Granted I do not have the original case or the pickup covers. I thought to be fair, that is why I kept the price at what I thought was a realistic leval.

    As I am sure you understand, I invested my money in this bass a few years ago, so, can't let it go too cheap. Sorry for the lengthy mail, but, felt I needed to have one more say before I try selling it somewhere else.

    SOLD 1973 Fender Jazz Bass

    I have owned this bass for about 7 - 8 years.

    This is an excellent sounding and playing bass. The bass does have some marks and scratches, I never put a scratch on it since I have owened it.....honest!

    The neck plays beautifully with no buzzing or unwanted noises. The neck does have some marks but, does not affect playing. Machine heads and truss rod works perfectly. Neck is dated Dec 72.

    The picups as far as I am aware are origonal, but, have no dates or marks.

    The pots are all dated 44th week of 72 and work great.

    Origonal Bridge.

    Origonal scratch plate and thumb rest.

    No origonal case (have a good Hiscox case tho!)

    No covers for the pups.


    Great sounding and playing bass. If you like that jazz honk and great slapping tone.....look no further.

    I am based in Bracknell, Berkshire.


    You are welcome to try before you buy, but, NO TEST PILOTS please. Serious buyers only please.


    I will try sell it here first. If no takers then I will try elsewhere.

    bass player seeks band

    Hi,

    I'm a young 52 year old bassist looking for other musos to form or join a band.

    Would like to join a party type/corporate function band to earn a little. Prefer funk disco tunes.
    From motown to now.......Sister sledge to Cee lo green. Currently going through about 40 tunes from the function band type sets with the opinion that I could colaborate with a similar set in an existing band/new project with the similar aims.

    My biggest bass influences have been Jaco Pastorius through to Marcus Miller.

    Good gear and transport. Have played funk, rock, blues and a little jazz too in the past.

    Who here could knock me up a 21 fret neck?

    I bought a "Signature" jazz bass from an ebay seller a few years ago (great bass still got it) point being some of the "Signature" basses were 21 fret.

    This guy used to sell 21 fret "Sinature" necks.

    This is THE bassline that spawned so many others......as said previously, it's all in the feel. The muting and spacing you leave between the notes is what helps make it. Just keep playing along with the tune with headphones on. When you think you have it, record yourself or use a loop pedal to check.You are looking for your interpretation of it, so, no need to get to hung up on it being absolutely perfect, but, this line is the driving force of the whole toon. Needs the FUNK

    Archer/ex demo/on ebay

    Hi, spotted this on ebay......don't know if it is worth chasing. Looks ok apart from the finish and a burst strap in the case.
    I know a few of you guys rate the Archer and from what I have found out so far (mostly from Basschat) it is probably my best choice for my budget. The auction starts at £500. Ends on Sunday. I think that £600-£650 would be ok, but any more, then you may as well spend £880 for one that isn't ex demo.

    I seen Mardisgrass advertising for a bassist on another forum. I was interested in trying out for them, but, never got a reply.
    I just assumed they had found someone. They did get a new bass player last year, as I saw them advertise for one then too.

    I heard a demo/montage of some of thier set. They sound very good. Full on entertainment and fun, with good harmonies too!

    Wow! what a lucky find. Looks like you have your work cut out with this project. I would tackle repairing something like this too! Even if only to learn from the experience. I am a carpenter to trade, but, never tackled anything like this.
    The veneer should be simple enough to repair, but any splits would need re-inforcing from the inside with an oversize patch, so you would have a firm foundation to close any gaps/splits which then could be repaired from the face side. Not sure what glue is used constructing an ADB but, may be horse-glue or something similar. I think the back would have to come off to gain access to the damaged areas....maybe a hot knife will help seperate the joints, etc. As I said, I'm only guessing. You might be able to find an old piece of veneered furniture as a doner source for the repairs.

    Would be cool to follow your progress. Udoubtabally speaking to a real luthier who is willing to give up his secrets, would be the best source of advice.
