1. I quit my band this month.I couldn't commit to the gig schedule as I have a family and I cannot always get time off of work to gig.
I was the oldest at 47.All the rest ranged in age from 29 to 35.
We all got along very well due to a shared sense of humour, but sometimes I did feel like the odd man out due to my age, although nobody ever made a comment that I looked out of place.
Would I do it again?Well,in due course I may do so,but only playing original material, and doing 1 gig a month, but I fear that finding a band of musicians around my age who wish to do as much(or should that be little)performance of original songs may be hard.
There is no maximum physical age to playing, only the constraints that we place on ourselves,be they actual or imaginary.

2. Hello all,
I recently left the band I helped form(South Of The City)due to not being able to give enough time to them, and looking back I realize that what I really enjoy is writing and co-writing songs.
Having trawled the net looking for advice on how to get songs published, and finding mainly US based ads for publishing services that look "too good to be true",I thought I would ask the cornucopia of all things sensible and musical that is BC!
I would love to earn some cash from my songs(I'm not under the illusion that this will become my main source of income),but I don't know quite where to start.
I have a portfolio of lyrics to be used/published and need some pointers as to where to begin.
Many thanks.

3. Hi there,
I am the outgoing bass player from South Of The City, and I need to be replaced!
The group are based in Guildford,Surrey, and need a bass player with own gear, transport, and a good sense of humour.
An album has been recorded, and my slot needs filling so that the band can carry on and perform great gigs.

They are a great band who have just been reviewed at https://musicmusingsandsuch.wordpress.com/2016/03/25/track-review-south-of-the-city-up-in-the-sky/
All the best

4. The country-rock band that I play in (South Of The City)are looking for gigs around SW Surrey,Hampshire and West Sussex.
We had a good 1st year in 2015 and want to keep it going in 2016,especially as we are recording and album.
A trawl of gig guides haven't turned up a lot(we try to avoid doing covers, and lots of venues want them),so I am appealing to the BC gig guru's.
If you know any venues for a 4 piece country rock band playing original material,or if your band wants to do gigs with us,please let me know.
Many thanks in advance.

5. After saying that I would fit these strings on Sunday, impatience got the better of me and I fitted them to my Status on Thursday night.
I found that they had a higher tension,as other testers reported, and that they retained tuning fantastically.A quick tune, pull to stretch, then retune is all that was needed.Under the fingers they feel fast and less "grippy" than other roundwounds.
Played acoustically, the strings felt more like an old set that had settled in rather than a fresh set,so I plugged into my practice amp(25W Marlin that was my 1st amp).
With the onboard pre-amp set treble flat and bass at 75%,I was hearing a solid tone with a low mid bias.As others have said ,the top end was polite instead of zingy, and overall there was a pleasing warmth to the tone.
These strings are very sensitive to finger position,as moving my plucking hand just one inch in front of the pickup gave me a much more rounded and vintage tone.
Digging in will give you a growl, but I concede that this could be due as much to the bass pickups as the strings, but I will add that the growl factor was never overpowering, and the fundamental warmth was always there.
Tomorrow I will be recording with them,so I hope to be pleasantly surprised by them.
Would I buy them?Well, price will be a factor.Elite Players, which are my default strings, retail at £19.95.I feel that these strings will be at least £25,but if they last well I could be converted.
Thanks to D'Addario for the chance to test these.

There's a reason P basses as so common. . . . it's because of their unique sound. Non P basses can get close but never close enough, IMO. That's why most companies make at least 1 P bass.

As long as you have the split pickup in the correct position I guess you'll get the P bass sound from any bass.

I'd strongly suggest that you try flatwound strings on whatever bass you get.
And put a bit of foam by the bridge, then back off the treble.

8. The moment when the song takes you over, you dig in and play every note as if it's your last.
You've co-written the tracks, helped arrainge them, raised them like your offspring and then watched them go out into the big wide sonic world.
You're on the ragged edge of holding it together, and for 3 minutes 45 seconds you are indestructable.
The audience cheer, they want one more, and when you come off stage the only thing keeping you upright is the adrenaline.
The whole band are grinning at each other in a show of fraternal joy.
Big gig, small gig, they are all important gigs.
Because you put on a show for your audience.
Never gig?
I would rather give up breathing.

Thought I'd add something to this thread as I do like a double P. I added another p/up to a Roadworn I bought, now sold (I really can't remember why; GAS probably), sounded great IIRC.

Yes,on god yes......
