Hi there guys.
I'm sure there's loads of you out there playing music not only as a hobby but full time. Unless you are in a successful band or busy with 4-5 tribute bands at the same time, how do you survive? I'm a solo artist (singer/songwriter) and I try to avoid getting a normal 9-5 job that would probably kill the dream. Is working in a bar/pub the only solution? I would really appreciate all your ideas and experiences.
By the way I live in West London.
cheers. -
Hey guys,
I would like to print a few copies of my album's artwork. Just the front one, in colours, CD size. I was wondering if there is an online company in the UK that does the job at reasonable prices.
Does anyone know anything?
Thanks -
Is bandmix good?
I've been looking on gumtree from a long time but most ot people there are just looking for cover/tribute bands to make some money.. -
Hi,
I'm looking for the right people to start this band with, and so, including a bass player.
Please read the full ad before contacting me.
I'm 26 and I live in Ealing, West London.
I'm a singer/songwriter and I play guitar.
Currently not working, and just focused on music.
I'm looking for like minded people.
Possibly in their mid 20's like me, possibly not working full time, possibly brave enough to take the risk of losing a couple of years of their lives, to make it with this band, with all the consequences that requires. This is not just for fun.
Not necessarily the best musicians in the world, but mainly creative, inspired people.
I have a rough idea of the line up. Me as a singer and 3 other members : drummer, lead guitarist and a bass player.
The other 3 can also be songwriters and singers.
I like many types of music. Nothing heavy but mainly melodic and fresh.
Here a few names : The Beatles, Nirvana, Pixies, Oasis, Blur, Red hot chili peppers, MGMT, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Teenage Fanclub, The Stone Roses, Suede, Pulp, Michael Jackson...etc
Guilty pleasures : Robbie Williams, Take That, Guns N' Roses.
Here's the link to what I've recorded these days, on my own, in my room in Ealing.
I'm very bad as a producer. Still got loads of things to learn, but I hope it gives an idea of what I do. I also consider doing something completely different.

to be honest with you on gumtree you don't find many...and on ebay it seems that there are no second hand mexican fender jazz bass...do you know any shop in London where I can find good deals with second hand instruments? thanks
-
I wanted to know...if I buy on ebay from USA or Japan...a part from the expensive shippings, will I be charged by the UK or I will not pay anything else?
I'm italian and when I was in Italy and used to buy from the USA, once the product arrived at home in Italy I was charged of the 20% (if I'm not wrong) and I had to pay extra money to the postman...because USA and Japan are not in the European Community..
what about here in London, England? It's like in Italy or it works differently?
I'm really interested cause as you know, especially USA offers cheaper prices...
thanks a lot -
Anyway...I live in London...do you think it's worth going to have a look at denmark street? or their prices are not so good?
-
you'll probably laugh at me...
I'm a guitarist but in this case I'm interested in buying a bass...a very cheap one cause I still don't know if I will like playing bass...maybe in the future I will buy a good one..
to be clear I would spend around 275 pound (don't laugh ) and I was searching for a mexican Fender Jazz Bass that looks like this one

do you think other less famous brands would be better at this prize ?
Please let me know..
thanks a lot -

How to survive as a musician without a 9-5 normal job?
in General Discussion

Hello guys,
I'm really impressed by all your answers. I really appreciated your interest for this topic.
I take my situation very realistically. I'm a singer/songwriter and I produce my own songs with Logic. I also play guitar, but mainly as a tool to write songs and perform them live. I'm towards my late 20's. I never though about doing this forever, and probably when I reach 30 or my early 30's I will consider giving up the big dream and doing music in my extra time in my little room.
Having a 9-5 (9-6, 8-6 or whatever) normal job would be fine, although if very demanding, when you come back home, I'm not sure if you still have energies to sit down and concentrate on music. I guess you'd rather relax and eat some nice food, after so much stress in the office.
I was looking for some type of survival jobs, like market research with flexible hours, a little bit more than part-time, and other not mentally demanding jobs that don't completely abuse your brain before the end of the day.
