i always imagined the P to have a very 'direct' and 'mellow' sound. a similar sound can be achieved with just the neck pup of the J. but i love the tone when you just use the bridge pup of the J. it gives a 'growl' tone that the P is unable to produce. that is why i prefer my jazz over my P.

i have a 515 combo nd its a beautiful bass amp. but there is no DI out put which can make life hard if you start gigging. if you like the ampegs tone then it really is worth the extra money. but i would strongly reccomend that you check out some reliability reviews first. but if you like the ashdowns tone then heres something to check out

tbh man a bass amp is a bass amp. I t doesnt really matter if your bass has frets or not. At 250 your not talkin bout investin in high end gear. but the bass amps above are the best you'll get for that budget. But if none of these impress you the try to pick up one of these second hand
I guess you will not really know until you open it up and someone with an educated eye gives it the run over.
I have an old U.S made amp to a pretty high spec and it wasn't cheap back then...£745 in 1992. I am sure I paid top dollar but it hasn't put a foot wrong in all those years and runs REALLY hot.
I have had a VG tech look at it and he says it is very well made. I can accept the premium paid for that...but he says certain brands now are dogs to work on and dogs inside...and they are U.S names who may have shitfed their manufacturing..
He says the main difference is compoents used and maybe certain techniques are now considered overkill...??
Anyway..I don't mind paying top dollar to a western made company who pay western salaries and have western conditions, H&E, pensions etc etc .... but rather object paying that top price when a regime doesn't have that...so the diiference goes straight into the companies profits.
If we are talking about a £5-600 amp, then I doubt you can complain much but if the price is £1400 and counting...??????????????
A point well made -
Its no wonder why the price of old US made ampegs have sky rocketed
I cant seem to find one anywhere for a decent price -
Ampeg have just outsoured their manufacture to China, Korea etc
Any ampeg enthusiasts out there who want to voice their opinion on this feel free to on this forum
Is the quality affected from this because the price doesnt seem to be affected !!!!!!!!
Would it be wise to fork out extra for the Heritage series instead of opting for the (relativley) cheaper all valve ampegs ????? -
Ohri tanks guys
but can i ask wats yer opinion on the ashdown ABM because if i cant buy this then ill probably buy the ABM -
BUMP

Thanks for the advice dude it is 'made in USA'. But it has been in the shop a good while
Im sorted for the cabinet -
I am hoping to invest in a new bass rig and my main concern is over what head to buy
Im currently in a semi-pro hard rock band with two guitarists and a loud drummer
I play a 2008 US fender jazz bass
The amp ive been using for gigs until now is an Ashdown MAG 300 evo however its borrowed from a friend
The amp i use for practice is an Ashdown fivefifteen its a lovely sounding however its heavy and its useless as it has no DI output
I have been given the oppurtunity to buy an 'new' AMPEG SVT3PRO for 600 euro
Is it a good idea to buy this amp if not can you reccomend an head for me (my budget is 900 euro)
give us your suggestions regarding sound quality, reliabilty etc -

when i was buying a fender jazz bass i saved 150 euro from doing this
ampeg svt 3-pro trouble
in Amps and Cabs
Posted
the valves in my svt 3 pro keep leaving a smell as if they ar burning
this only happens when i turn it up really loud for gigs. the gain is usually at 7 and the master is at 5 .... i leave the 'tube gain' at 10
i use it with an svt410he cab
what causes this and what can i do to prevent it.
