Both are correct... but I'd swap the necks. IMO, there's more to gain from the neck H on a fretted model... but that's me :)

Classic burst is always cool. By definition, ;)

An orange pair would be killer, indeed!

Curiously I did swap the necks before seeing your post. You are spot on, the neck H is really precision like on the fretted and the 2eq just right on the fretless. Respect!

Wow! I had an '87 Passion with woven graphite neck that served me well for years, but this is a different animal altogether -- and it's black! What a rarity. If I had the cash for this one and the fretless, I'd be severely tempted, but I'm saving for a new custom build at the moment. Good luck with the sale!

Like the Douglas Adams spaceship 'Disaster Area'....It's black, with black pickups, a black neck and black controls on a black surface!

Hmm very nice. Unusual to see a passion with pickups in those positions. This has the brass laminate under the fingerboard yeah?

Yup, wooden through neck with a brass plate under the fingerboard, ser.026 and made on the 23 may 1984. Patrice Vigier thinks they only made about 10 with this pickup configuration

  4. I'm not sure if this is against forum rules so moderator please feel free to move or remove as appropriate. I have no commercial connection with Bass Direct.

I've put my 1984 black Passion (ser. 026) up for commision sale at 'Bass Direct' in the UK and I noticed they also had a matching black delta metal fretless (ser. 004) for sale.

They look fantastic side by side and both have the very early wider pickup positions.

  5. Hi Nick, You are right, the Vigier site gives you a nice warm feeling...great designs too.
As for selling, I really have no clear idea of the value of my bass, At the end of the day we all know it tends to be whatever someone is prepared to pay! At the moment I'm on a quest for THUD so I'm looking for a pretty (probably pre EB) Stingray. That's the kind of value/trade that would certainly prick up my ears but feel free to email me directly if you want to know more. I've more pictures etc.
I will probably be listing the bass here and on the Vigier site in a few weeks, I'm not sure about the rules of this forum with regard to selling outside the 'for sale' page so I hope this reply is OK...

  6. Just had this reply from Patrice Vigier, the horses mouth if ever there was...

"This is a rare bird , produced at the very beginning of the Passion bass. I cannot say how many we made with pickups this way, probably less than 10."

So that's me told! Many thanks for all help here, I may have to think about selling/trading some time so all your info will help.

    Cheers!

  7. Can anyone help me find out more about my lovely black bass?
I bought it in London around 1985 I think and it was heavily discounted as being shop soiled (2 little dinks on the back of the lower horn) and 'only' passive.
I've only home recorded with it (normally I play fretless) and love the sound and feel when I need a versatile fretted sound.
The front pickup is in an odd place for a Passion, nearer the neck. Under the rear one it says 23'05'84. There is no obvious serial number visible.
Any more info would be hugely appreciated...

  8. Hi, I joined this site as I have a nice black mid 80's passive VIGIER passion, but having borrowed a Stingray recently feel that type of thing suits me better these days. I'm looking for a swap and saw your post today. Any interest?
    Cheers
