I've lost track of the number of times I've been smacked in the teeth by my own mic when some drunken tool stumbles into your mic stand while you're singing.

Could be worse, seeing this put me off using boom stands on at punter level for good.

Sounds to me like everyone needs to lighten up a little.

"I'm going to get drunk and dance like an idiot" well, I don't approve but it's your Saturday night and we're here to make sure you have a good time!

Jesus, guys! Our customers want us to make sure that everyone has fun and stays in the pub drinking. It's literally what they're paying us to do!

Yep, some gigs are like that. Its all show business innit :D .
Too many bands dont realise it though. I been in pub covers bands where the guitar and singer thought we were getting paid just so a few dozen middle aged drunks could watch them cos of how great they are... Really.

Do you know who the courier/postal service was? Somebody is accountable if there is a tracking number.
Was it to be signed for?
If so who signed for it?
The sender should be bending over backwards to sort this for you, not abdicating responsibility
If you have none of those, I would be asking for a refund sharpish.

The vendors not even in the UK, how is it their fault ? I'd still want a refund, but wouldn't blame the seller.

  4. Do you mean the shafts are at an angle to the scratchplate ?

There are locating lugs on the pots, which should go into little holes near the centre. Probably not in the holes, or the holes are just not there. Sometimes you cant fit new pots with them still there.

Either loosen the big nut and adjust, or break the lugs off with pliers.

  5. Can be dificult dealing with female band members, no matter how much they are 'one of the lads' they think and react differently.

Try talking to the guitar player in front of the others, if you cant get his attention kick him in the bollox and just quit, lifes too short to be doing something your not enjoying, and once communication has broken down beyond a certain point, you aint gonna get the respect back. You'll just hurt yourself trying.

Where are Fender currently at - I know their 2000-2010 period was way better than their 70s and 80s output. Have they continued? Then again, that's their guitars, the amps have been up and down with the cyber nonsense, although I love my Rumble cabs.

I was saddened to hear from a dealer friend that Peavey are no longer their bomb proof former self.

Well my 2010 MIA Precision plays way better than the one I bought new in 1977 did.

But the 2010 0ne had issues with the paint, Fender tech were great and sorted it quickly without any messing about.

P.S. An interesting topic to discuss might be, 'Basschatters who are in bands, where they dislike their fellow band members, but stay in the band because they really like the music they play'.

For most of of us its only your first band that consists of just mates, after that your more likely colleagues than friends. Its the pecking order that causes problems. Which is a good argument for having a leader, so you all know yer place.

  8. Seen a few people knocking covers bands in this thread.

Theres nothing wrong with playing covers, and I'd recommend it to anyone starting out. although I wouldnt want to do it myself anymore.

I did it for a few years. Its a good grounding for anybody. Some people enjoy it, and are very very good at it - fair play to em, if you enjoy it, why not ?

If I'd known what I do now when I was younger I'd have been gigging and getting experience much sooner, and would have saved all the time I wasted looking down on covers bands almost, and playing with originals bands that never got out of the 'writing, rehearsing and planning' phase.

Too many bedroom warriors that talk the talk, spend the dosh, but never go out and actually use the gear or talent they have.

Saying that, id love someone to persuade me that packing gear up at 2am, with a 2 1/2 hour drive to get home (after unloading the gear) is "fun" ;-)

The adrenaline and the craic is the fun.
The getting home is often a nice wind down. Personally I wont sleep till I have at least 3 or 4 hours to wind down. The only downside is if you have to drive yourself, so you cant drink. I miss getting pissed at/after gigs, when I was younger that was a big part of the fun.

For me, the bedroom is good for woodsheding and only woodsheding.

I can see your point, there doesnt seem any point in sitting in a bedroom playing to yourself, especially not playing Bass to yourself, its not really a solo instrument is it ?

Anyway, in my life, what happens in the bedroom stays in the bedroom :gas:

Whats woodshedding ? Not a term I've heard before.

  11. One of the best guitar players I know only ever did one gig, didn't enjoy it and hasn't done one since. Just sits at home jamming along to his 70s albums. His one gig wasnt a total disaster either, I know, cos it was my first gig as well. It was NYE, Good money and a friendly crowd.

I cant help thinking all those bedroom players daydream about gigging though, and as for recording stuff to play back just to yourseelf. Eh ? Why ?

The bass line to 'Something' is a tour-de-force of creative bass playing. To me it sounds like McCartney played whatever came into his head and much if not all of it made it onto the final recording. It is intuitive, irregular and has a fresh, spontaneous feel. Yes, it's quite active but McCartney was master of avoiding the obvious. It supports the entire harmonic structure of the song.

    This.

    Well put squire.
