When I lived in Bristol, I had lessons from Graham Southcott.
I found him to quite good and not particularly expensive, either. -
As soon as I have to start EQ'ing things that I think is down to the strings going off..
I very rarely have to touch my amp apart from levels...maybe a tad for a difficult room.
I'll know when messing around at home that the strings are losing it.
Depending on the make of string, anything from around 4 weeks on..but entirely down the my ears.
I like that approach - after spending two hours dicking around with my sans amp settings at practice, it must be time for a string change.... -

As per the topic title?
I just wondered how often people on here change their strings, after being slated at practice this weekend for having three year old strings on my P-Bass.
I've always thought that if they sound/feel good, leave them well alone, but I'm open to being convinced the other way if there's a tangible sound/playing pleasure benefit.... -
I'm loving the sansamp I've got. Massive bonus not having to lug my rig 45 miles to practice every week!

Hi all,
I just found this rather cool board and thought I would sign up and get involved.
Anyways, about me.....I've been playing bass for about ten years now in various Bristol bands, after playing various other instruments when I was younger I feel like the bass is my spiritual home. I'm currently rocking out to drum track withh my old bandmates.
In terms of Guitars, I have a Mexican P-bass (no idea what year), a 2007 Ibanez Artcore, a Ibanez SR886 I should really get rid of as I'm notgood enough to do justice to the six strings and an (allegedly) Fender J rather fetchingly finshed in Subaru blue.
I let it all ring out through a Behringer BX4500 and a 4x12 cab.
Anyway, glad to find the site and be here!
Basslines everyone should know

+1!!!!!!
I also heartily recommend "The Somberlain" by Dissection (all 17 pages of it), just for being a piece of absolute, unsurpassable musical genius.
