1. Hey guys.

I've had a little Peavey amp for a while now, and combined with my Squier VM Jazz, I just can't seem to find the sound that I want from this amp. I can't seem to get anything much different from the one sound that it gives, which I don't really like. THIS is it.

I want to be able to play stuff like Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and some soul/funk stuff aswell.

It's gotta have headphone port aswell. That's important.

Budget wise, i'd say around £250.

2. Hey guys.

Been playing bass for a while now, would like to add another bass to my collection. :)
I have a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz at the moment.

I'd like to know what you guys think on whether to get a 4-string or a 5.
Pricing isn't really that big an issue as long as its not too high. Like.. Maybe £600 or somewhere around that mark. Maybe higher maybe lower.. Not really sure for now.

The sort of music I play mostly is the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine sort of thing.

I'm going to go to PMT when I can to try out some basses, but I'd like to hear your suggestions too. :)

Thanks guys.

3. Hey guys.

Lately I've been pickin bass up ALOT and really really getting into playing and learning new stuff. I was warned about GAS after getting my first bass haha.

I've been looking at the Ibanez basses and I saw the bridge and I just love it. http://i.pgcdn.com/pi/71/09/37/710937936_640.jpg Not sure about the gold, but that's the best looking bridge I've ever seen. In matte black that'd look perfect.

And I'd just like to know what basses you guys have tried with monorail bridges and which you liked, which you didn't. I only know of like.. 1 or 2 basses with a monorail bridge at the moment and I'd like to know more about them.

Thanks guys.

4. I don't really mind whether it's an amp/cab or combo as long as it's affordable.

The thing that bugs me with my current amp is that it hums even when I'm not playing, and no matter what I do I can't get a nice sharp groove out of it. But that might be because I'm pretty new.

5.
first of all. Look 2nd hand. you'll get a better quality rig? (check the forum - you'll get alot of true advice rather than a salesman at a shop
second what bass amps have you heard that you like?
third what style do you play?
I heard some Trace Elliot amps, with seperate heads/cabs and they sounded great.

And for style, I play anything really, but mainly funk/rock.

6. Hey guys.

Since I first got into bass I've been using a cheap noisy practice amp, and I'd like to upgrade my amp setup.

All I have right now is a little combo and I've had no experience with anything else.
What kind of setup would you recommend for about £200-£300 max. Preferably as cheap as poss.

Thanks!

7.
Sorry, but I'm kind of confused about what you mean by staying on the string too long?
I mean like... I find it hard to just hit the string and move on quickly, my fingers kinda get stuck on the string like I'm pulling on the string a bit before letting it go.

8. Hey guys.
I'm kinda new to bass and I've been learning some well known songs: Cosmic Girl, Come As You Are, etc.
But as I find faster songs, or more complex songs, my fingers can't keep up with the playing.

My problem is that I spend to long on each string, what's a good way to get a good sound of the string quickly?

And also I'm having problems with slap bass. Does anyone have any advice for me to help me get a good slap bass sound technique wise?

Give me any technique advice you can spare, anything helps. :)

Thanks

9.
If you have Garageband, then you can do it a lot cheaper than that, I use one of these, got it for about £25:

http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/beh...nterface--38128
That looks awesome.

So i dont need to worry about busting speakers or anything with one of these?

10.
That device is designed for guitarist, so a preamp should not be necessary. It's a simple plug and play solution designed for technophobes :) A preamp would only really be useful if you had a bass with particularly low output. But for basic recording, this thing would be ideal. I'm guessing it comes with recording software too that will make your life so much more easier with loads of preset amp and bass modeling algorithms that should help you get the sound you want with minimum effort.
Thanks for the reply.

Sounds great. I am very much a technophobe, scared to mess things up. And yes it comes with recording software, although I have Garageband already.

11. Hey guys.

I want to be able to record my bass into my Laptop, and I'm guessing the best way would be an External Audio Interface thing?

I really have no idea with how these work and how to identify whether it will work or not.

If I bought THIS, would I need anything else? I've heard that I might need a Pre-amp.

I just want to be able to plug my bass into the External Device and then from the device into the Laptop via USB or whatever. And then I hope Garageband will pick it up as recording?

Could someone please help to answer my questions? Thanks in advance.

12. Hey guys.

I'm a little bit confused.
On my Android Phone I've downloaded the App named: gStrings.
Which tunes your stringed instrument whatever it may be.

I've been looking at it, listening etc and I can't seem to make sense of how to use it to tune a bass.
No matter what I do i'm staying with these across the top: c - c# - d - d# - e - f - f# - g - g# - a - a# - b

I've tried listening to E A D G, but the D sounds deeper than the A sound so I'm guessing thats not right.

Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

13. For that amp, it says:

External Speaker Skt Minimum 8 Ohms.

So does that mean i could connect 2 of these in parallel?
http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/3714...et-evo-ii-.html

Also, what do you mean by parallel?

14. Hey guys.

I've been wondering about cabs and heads and combos and stuff recently.

How do you know what kind of cab you can connect to the combo or the amp? Cause apparantly you could attack a 4x10 cab to a 20w combo as long as it has speaker out and I'm just wondering is there any scenario in which you couldn't?

Lets say, if I bought this combo http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/rb-2/69083 and I wanted to attach a cab to it, which would work and which wouldn't? And why?

Thanks, sorry if I seem a bit of a newb.

15.
some blurb about them in here

SR600 at guitarguitar
Thanks for that. :) I've heard good things about those bartolini pups in the SR500/600. The EQ is good from what I've heard too..?
I really dig the shape and feel of the SR600, aswell as how light it was!
I seem to have a love for black bridges. I just love the black matte finish.

So am I right in thinking that the SR500 and SR600 are exactly the same except for Body Wood?

Thanks.

16. Hey guys.

Been looking at some of Ibanez's Soungear basses.

I've come across an SR600 at a store, and I'm not really sure if I should get it over the SR500. I can find barely anything about the SR600 on the internet.

What are the differences between the two and which do you prefer if you've tried both? I prefer the looks of the SR600, but I can't compare any sound yet.

Thanks.

17. Hey guys
Went to the music store yesterday and I really love the look and feel of the SR600. - Anyone have any experience with that?

Is it better than the SR500 if you have had experience with both? Thanks.

18.
IMHO your best getting an amp or/and getting a decent FX pedal with output to headphones capability, just had a look for 708II's on eBay and noticed they aint so cheap anymore...
Yeah - Im just gonna get the Laney RB2. It does have a headphone jack. :)

19. I just came across something that looks strange, and I'm not sure how it works.

Its an external sound card, presumably so you could plug your instrument into it without busting what it's using as a speaker.. i.e laptop.
Does it only work with computers and stuff, or could you use it like a pre-amp and plug it from the sound card to normal speakers or a cab?

Sounds like a great idea though. Once the sound is playing through it and into your computer, could you put effects on your sound via the computer?

Exciting discovery! - Seeing as whenever I'm at home I'm with my computer, and i could take it to friends houses etc without hauling an amp, it sounds perfect.

Like, is it the sound card in my laptop that wouldn't be able to handle the bass normally? And an external would be able to use my laptops speakers?
