1. Technically I started off on Trombone (and I don't mean to blow my own Trombone, but I was fairly good) at 8 or so. Played that for a couple of years, then gave it up, as it was a bit taxing for me.

At about 13 I started playing Steel Pans, on the Cello pans (serves a very similar role to Bass Guitar actually...)

Got a Bass for my 14th birthday, and have been going since.
We went into the shop on the day, and the guy in there said something along the lines of "It might be worth learning guitar first", to which I shook my head and reaffirmed my low end-ness.

I'd have struggled with guitar really, my hands are rather big, and the string spacing on a guitar is just too small for me.

2.
Luckily passing Warwick on the way there or back!! :)
Well the Uni's about 25 minutes away from Warwick proper, down the A46, so it's not exactly a huge diversion either way.
I go climbing at the Uni one a week or so, so that stretch of dual carriageway is rather familiar now ;]

3. Anyone tried one?
I got a Blowtorch a little while ago, but it's not quite what I was after. The El Grande seems to be a bit more up my street.
Anything to be aware of, etc?

4. As the title says, a blowtorch.

I got it about 3 weeks ago, and it's just not really what I'm after.
It's barely used at all, and I've got the box and everything for it, though I don't have an 18V PSU or the adaptor.

I paid £125 for it, so £85 posted is what I'm after, or a trade for a Big Muff/ Something distortiony or fuzzy, with some pennies (or possibly something else)

Pics available if wanted.

Cheers!

Edit - Revised price, would also be quite happy to swap for an MXR El Grande.

5. It's octaves around D really.
Play the low ones on the A string, high ones on G.

Bit of fuzz, bit of sub-octave.
If you want to do the little end riff like at 5:20, then you'll need to be in Drop D

6.
That advert says it's a *passive* DI - are you sure it needs a battery/phantom power?

G.
I've got one for the same reason that lanark's getting one.

It does need PP/a 9v Battery. I keep a battery in mine, but I don't think I've ever needed to use it off that, as mixers provide the good old 48V.
