All appear to be metal boxed, probably plastic though in an Electro Harmonix stylee
Amazing prices might just give the Vintage Tube OD a try !

VINTAGE TUBE OVERDRIVE - £33

VINTAGE TUBE MONSTER - £45

VINTAGE DISTORTION - £23

Still not sure how they get away with it !

 • 3 weeks later...

They've been sued for or accused of plagarism many times but as I understand it, only once succesfully. After BOSS got uppity, they made one minor change to the casing design and that was that. Apparently the gubbins inside was very different from the BOSS pedals.

Behringer have been given a bit of a rough ride IMHO.

i just went off this review

Construction is not the highest point on this pedal. The plastic casing doesn't worry me, it's very substantial, but the hinges do worry me especially as you need to mess with them everytime you put a new battery in. I use it with an adaptor, so it will probably last a lot longer this way. Still... this is a very nice sounding overdrive pedal, if it breaks I'd just buy another (so cheap) or alternatively it wouldn't take much effort to transplant the circuitry to another pedal box, which can be had cheaply.
I give it a 6 not due to any problems I hav had, but because I don't trust it entirely.

obv the guy must have been confused i guess

To an extent it's Behringer that are causing the confusion by naming two pedals very similarly (bar the model number, of course). They have a pedal called the Vintage Tube Overdrive T800 - which is a Boss lookalike - Harmony Central reviews here. I think you have read the reviews of that pedal. They now also have the Vintage Tube Overdrive VT911 - Harmony Central reviews here - which is the pedal mentioned in the first post.

I'm intrigued by the comment on the first revierw of the VT911 though - they claim that swapping the valve from a 12ax7 to a 12at7 INCREASED the volume output - I always thought that at7s had lower gain.

To the extent of my knowledge, Behringer have NEVER been successfully sued (and I mean successful to the point of ceasing production). They have some seriously sh*t hot lawyers...

Mackie were after them for years, before that a stream of other companies. They have ripped off (well, reverse engineered, but its the same thing...) every thing they've ever released (pretty much, unless youre counting for cheap add-ons for an already successful design / product) BUT they do work OK for the money... They are cheap, and not a patch on the original, but OK for they money involved...
One of the reasons Behringer have never been successfully sued is that the vast majority of those circuit designs have existed for years.. They were NOT invented by BOSS, who simply 'ripped them off' themselves a couple of decades or so ago from other designers.

What goes around, comes around.

To suggest otherwise, is like saying that 'Murphy' invented the radio and no one else should ever use that design again or that 'Ford' invented the motor car and no one else should be allowed to manufacturer them.
Thank you. At last a voice of sanity on the Behringer issue.

Do they actually have a valve in them. I could not be sure reading the Behringer page or am I misreading
This high-quality classic tube overdrive pedal is based on a hand-selected 12AX7 vacuum tube
- my italics.

I can see what appear to be slots on the front to allow air to a valve, but that does not mean there is one.

EDIT: OOPS! yes it does. Just re-read the manual which points to where the valve is inserted. My apologies for doubting them!!

Otherwise, I have nothing against Behringer stuff as such, I have two in my rack after all :)

Then there is the VINTAGE TIME MACHINE VM1 on whose page it says
This product is currently not available for sale in the United States and Canada pending verification of compliance with applicable technical standards and regulations
and presumably the outcome of a lawsuit from EH

It also gives me an excuse to use brycebites's valve comparision guide for more than just reading (that should be stickied imo) and to get some valves in my setup after missing out on that Trace amp in october.

Edit: £45? I'm seeing around £32/33

Edit2: Ordered from Reidys, 34 all inc delivery (29.99 for the pedal).
