Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting

Finally got down to my brother's and picked up the Maya Jazz bass copy that was posted above. It's in good shape, the only thing wrong with it is a missing retaining nut and knob on the treble volume control. In the meantime I ordered a pair of John Birch Hyperflux 3 pickups to replace the standard Jazz style pups. John Carling at JB made the pickups with black covers and mounting rings - delivered to me within five days of ordering, and they look the business. I'll start a (re)build thread soon.

This must be the shortest scale bass I've seen that isn't a ukelele! Still, despite looking like a mash up of an EB0 and stratocaster, its attracting some interest so must be legit.

Anyone know anything about these?

Cimar bass - worth doing up? Not for me.

Takeharu bass - doesn't look crap at all. Not cheap.

These are both cool IMO - the Cimar looks to be a Fujigen build, going on the s/n (despite the Ibanez/Hoshino connection I think most of them weren't), and the Takeharu is just a great-looking & unusual bass. This - or one the same - has been on before a few times - can't remember when. I think it might be a little more reasonably priced now, assuming bidding doesn't go mad. I think I've also seen this design with a different brand but not sure.

Thanks for that Jon. I find myself drawn to the Cimar, although the last thing I need is another 4 string bass kicking around the place.

I know the feeling. It's too easy sometimes to go for these, find they actually bring nothing new to the collection, then polish the frets and move them on, often losing money on the experience.
Interesting to watch them though.

An Ibanez Black Eagle, nice apart from a clunky attempt to repair the usual headstock break.

http://www.ebay.co.u...qEAAOSw5cNYdUOj

And an Antoria SG which has definitely seen better days. Found in a loft, naturally.

Bargain alert, at least from where I'm standng:

Vox Standard (with DiMarzio Model P) - £85 BIN, £25 post.

Couple of cosmetic knocks but looks in good order, s/n suggests '83, these are generally assumed to be Matsumoku.

Hmmmm, interesting.

Could very easily stick another P pickup in there and have a fun little bass. Anybody know what the necks are like on these?

Aaargh... I've been hoping for a decent cheap one for ages (I want to defret it). Missed it!

The neck is a treetrunk. It weighs a ton. The pup is a touch on the puny side. None of these are my thing, but I will never get rid of the one I've got. Great bass.

I would guess that its just a crack in the fnish. I wouldnt expect wood to crack in that manner. I could be wrong though

Probably just as well, I likely wouldn't have been able to help myself...

A Fresher jazz bass. I don't think we've seen one of these for a while: http://www.ebay.co.u...WgAAOSwopRYh4ZD

Nice bass & an unusual finish for its era. Had its own thread that no-one paid much attention to... :D
