I bought today that thing - http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1497.l2649

Anyone know what it might be? There is no logo and i have no idea.

I was after this! So apologies for bumping the price up.......

It's a matsumoku I think, given the "Made in Japan" plate on the back.

Let me know how it plays when you get it!

Yamaha BB800 - I have had one of these since 1980 , better than any 1970s Fender precision. This looks like it will go for a song, someone please buy it to stop me!

My guess would be a stripped Columbus.

I had a Yasuki exactly like this, Columbus had a headstock truss adjust with a metal cover!
It seems like not every Columbus is like that, here is some youtube vid that i found with Columbus jazz from 77, i can clearly see that this one doesn't have headstock truss rod and metal cover.

Hi guys, I have an opportunity to buy a Cimar p-bass, will probably check it out today - see photos.

The little I know is that Cimar was an underbrand of Ibanez, but were early guitars made in Japan and later in Korea?
I understand that the Japan ones are good quality but what about Korean ones?

The bass looks very good on the photos I have and price is reasonable so if it works sonically and plays well and neck is ok I most likely will buy it.

Wow that looks to be fantastic condition for it's age. And certainly looks to be one of the ones with Ibanez blood running through it's veins. Go play it and if it sounds and feels right buy it.

My first guitar back in the early '80's was a '70's Jap Cimar... it was an awful dog of a thing.... I'm just saying. :D

Probably best to ask in repairs and technical. Do you have anything that might be of help in diagnosing and repairing - multimeter for testing, soldering iron for, er, soldering?

My first step would be the visual check - you've done that. Also check that nothing is connecting the signal path to earth - for example the braiding on shielded cables, where stray strands can come into contact with solder joints. Then I'd go with checking the pickups out direct - for that I'd unsolder the pickups from the volume controls. Then I'd first check that each pickup had a resistance of a few kilohms, ie. not short circuit and not open circuit. Then (assuming they seemed OK) I'd connect them (individually) straight to an amp input and see if they made a noise. If they did, it would be down to the volume and tone wiring.

Washburn bass, 1980s, not sure which model, £55 BIN Seems like a bargain do-er-upper

Unfortunately i haven't any tools, but electronics for me are black magic anyway. Except electronics bass had neck in not the best condition, frets were covered in lacquer, so someone who made that bass tinted whole neck and didn't polished frets. I took that bass to one guy who doing repair works and quote for fixing neck issues and electronics was higher than I paid for this bass. Fortunately seller accepted my return.

Hello all, I`ve been offered an Ibanez Blazer BL800,the wine body/maple neck with white PG version which I think is 82.
It`s a bit rusty and dinged to feck.
Not been used for a few years.
App price?
I`m thinking £60.
Too low/high?
Souds low. Got any pics?

At last. This was the first bass I had (well not this particular one, but you know what I mean).

Funny. I don't remember it being smaller than a strat (or at least a Hondo II strat which is as close as I got at the time)

I reckon with about 10 minutes work this should be worth a lot more than this guy expects.

It's good and "Roadworn", so he's put it up for "spares or repair" I suppose he doesn't know that its trendy to artificially batter your guitar at the moment. I quite fancy it, I love old MIJ's and these were supposed to be almost as good as the real thing. What do you think? £100.00 if he sells it as a damaged old bat, or £300.00 if it sells as "roadworn and dripping with mojo"?

CSL / CIMAR / IBANEZ bass, northlondon pickup- I would go for it if I could pick it up. Unless anyone near wants to do me a favour?
