Bass Direct have an offer at the mo:

http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...lists/Home.html

2nd hand price is commensurate with new minus a bit :)

Quite high demand I'd guess so not hugely cheap.

I got mine from Bonners for £700 new and a couple of other shops were matching that when I phones around, so no need to pay more than that just for the amp.
TC are now making the cabs with a different covering to what most shops currently have in stock (does not mark so easy), so anyone ordering a new TC cab make sure its with the new finish.

In my opinion if you buy the head w/o the pedal you're losing out on the versatility of the unit to a large extent. Not only is the tuner much less user friendly but the tonal variations and level of tubesim are either there or not there.

The gigbag is good value too.

The cabs? Meh.

I agree, but my thinking is that £700 for the amp, the gigbag and pedal can be had for around £20 and £100, makes that near £80 less than the package price quoted.
I have the pedal and take it out on maybe 50% of gigs depending what what the gig is and what bass I'm using. Never bought the gigbag as I keep the amp/pedal along with my leads and bits in one of those handy aluminium cases from DIY shops. Thomann were doing the gigbag for £18 a few months back.

That Bass Direct deal is a steal! I doubt you'll find many of these second hand as they were only released in the last year and I've heard nothing but praise for them. I'd love my next amp to be one of these. I wonder if it's too late to get my letter into Santa :)

I have a horrible suspicion that this is going to be a stupid question, but why have these amps only got one speaker output? If you have to run two (for example) 8 ohms cabs in series doesn't that keep the ohmage above 4 ohms and therefore mean you can't draw maximum power from the amp?

Hiya Mark

If you run two cabs in 'apparent series' i.e. one cable to the amp, 2nd cable from 1st cab to 2nd it is actually a parallel connection i.e. two 8 ohm cabs give 4 ohms. The 1st lead will take all the load too so needs to be decent and OBBM cables do it with ease I'm sure.
Wow :)
Thanks guys for all of your imput!
Who much did you buy Jay?
I heard so many good things about the rig and since selling my car I needed something that wouldn't give me a hernia everytime I got on the tube or a cab.

I also liked the idea of stacking the cabs vertically or on their side.

My plan is, when money allows and the gigs get larger, to add the RS112 or RS212 to give a bit more depth.

For me the flexibility of the head with the 3 programable channels, the valve 'sound' and the fact that there has been Ampeg users saying how close the head is to the SVT - not entirely convinced but until I get a roadie and transport there's no way I can lug around an SVT rig

Also you can run 3 cabs off the one amp in the way Peter (GreenKing) mentioned which looks very cool and is probably very loud.

I've paid £1,300 for the rig but I've also added the cab cover and the amp/pedal carry bag - they have said they'll be chucking in some freebies - hoping it's the cover/bag and some other bits.

Drop john.redfern AT bonnersmusic.co.uk a line and chat to Mark or John (same email) and ask about options. Mention me - it may or may not help

Bass Direct were also very helpful, in fact it was them that convinced me that the TC was the way for me as I was looking at the Genz Benz stuff originally but it seemed too dry for me. Unfortunatley they couldn't offer the finance deal (my lady has been made redundant so cash is very tight).

Ah, thanks for that, Peter. That's deals with that then!

I'm still on a mission to find one of the current breed of lightweight/Class D's that cab give me the same oomph, weight and warmth of sound as the Trace head I've been using recently. I've tried a Little Mark II but it sounds a bit clinical and thin by comparison. I've picked up a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 which I'll try too. Any thoughts on how the RH450 might compare and stack up against the Trace?

I've got the Rebelhead and the RS210 + RS212 and the Cabs make a hell of a lot of difference to the sound, the top speaker is at a level to chest so its just like standing in front of a Ampeg Fridge with that lovely feeling of the sound hitting you in the back (You don't even need much volume for this I was set at 10'oclock) Fair enough you can tilt a normal cab up but you lose the bottom end a little bit when you do this and it just does not feel the same as a speaker at chest height, I'd imagine most people would be happy with 2 x RS210's but the RS212 gives a bit more depth and bottom end with the 2 rear ports. I'm really impressed with the thinking behind the rig and the sound is so close to what I've always used in the past but always weighing 100lb's more.
I'm considering going for this amp + pedal + bag when I return my Shuttle 9.0 thats had some problems. I found the Shuttle a little too 'thin'....very very clean and light, but not my sound.

Will this amp deliver the goods?
Well, when chatting to Mark at Bass Direct he told me that the Shuttle was great for 'precise' and 'clinical' attack and uncoloured bass sound - that made me change my mind and head TC Rebel-wards

I'm neither clinical or overly precise and tend to get more rock and metal gigs than acoustic, solo bass and all round cleverness type gigs and the fact that I can make the rig sound dirty is a bonus

The fact that TC have had people such as Steve Bailey, Janek, Rocco Prestia, Nick Beggs and Ida Funkhouser being and sounding groovy with it as well as Ampeg fans digging the sound, for me at least, was convincing enough that this is a very versatile rig :)

FWIW I'm loving my Shuttle 9, but then I don't play rock/metal and love a tight clean sound, I play that way too... it's an awesome amp but undoubtedly designed with certain players in mind, TC have signed up lots of very techincal players too - Rich Bona, Dom DiPiazza, Steve Bailey, Janek - it's all a matter of what suits your style. No doubt this is the start of a new era in bass amplification, I'm loving my choice so far but no doubt this tug of opinions on the Class Ds will run and run.

This is also kinda why I go towards the TC...plus its just uber cool. I have my Markbass for the cleaner and more quicker bass stuff I might play, and he TC can handle that plus more rock n roll but without always needing to take tuner/sansamp, (which I have to keep anyway for the other amps).

I agree....its horses for courses. The Shuttle idea is great, but much more for a totally clean and clinical uncoloured sound. I thought Id dig it, but Ive been rock/punk for too long .....I think Markbass is the cleanest Ill go.

The Class D amp war is very interesting.....great time to be getting new rigs! Enjoy it
