ednaplate Posted August 21, 2009 Share Posted August 21, 2009 I don't know of any free ones however If you get Apple Quicktime Pro which I think costs £20 or so it will do it for you. I know it's not free but I've used and it works okay and unless someone can come up with a free alternative to might be worth a look. It's a bit naff when it comes to outputing the file and it's fairly limited but it's OK for simple work and you can cut avi's up easily. Get VirtualDub, open the file. Make sure audio and video are set to 'direct stream copy' in the menu so it doesn't try to re-encode the video. Hold down the shift key and drag the slider around (which snaps to 'key frames' which are faster to seek to and are the points where it's best to snip the video), place the start and end markers atthe desired points and hit save to export that potion of the avi. If you can't open the avi, try installing the latest version of [url="http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/"]ffdshow[/url]. When you have split the avi you get 2 clips in the top window. Drag the one you want into the timeline at the bottom, then "Publish film" from the file menu.
