Let's help him out and when he's done - I want a go! So - not sure how deft you are at the old woodwork lark but I , for one , would think tring to cut down and glue 2 bodies together sounds like a world of grief. I have seen it done , but by pro's. Wondering if someone like Prosebass could knock you the body up - sure there's others. I would think transporting it might be a headache - as you're a player you've got to think about that. Lighter weight M/Cs - smaller bridges - keeping the electrics down to a minimum - all will help with the weight - as will as wide a strap as you can get your hands on. I think you accept it'll be heavy and crack on or give up the idea. The idea of a single a/b toggle is sound , you seem to like a fairly simple sound so I'd go for one pup for each neck wired through a P style tone and vol. In fact I have the stock single coil pup from my 54P reish going begging - you pull this body off one way or another and it's yours , gratis. sshorepunk Posted July 17, 2009 Share Posted July 17, 2009 (edited) I have to swap basses, I play fretless on one, sometimes two songs in our set (origanils, so 8/9 song set) I have to move quick to make it happen, biggest problem I have is getting the sound on my amp to suit fretless, the output of the Bart pre in my Sei is much higher than my Pedulla, I just got a Boss LS-2 to make the change easier. Maybe looking at making the chnage happen quicker like I have done is an option? Assuming the necks are standard 25"-and-a-bit scale, there looks to be a good two feet from the top neck to the bottom neck. So even if you had it strapped on so the 12er was at Mark King height, the fretless would be unreachable. I'm sure I've read somewhere that these "Tennessee" branded instruments are unplayable rubbish... oh yeah, check out the Harmony Central reviews for their [url="http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar/brand/Tennessee"]guitars[/url] and [url="http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Electric+Bass/brand/Tennessee"]basses[/url]. Get a Radial Bassbone (£150ish s/h) and set the eq and level for the two basses so your happy then just kick the button to switch between them. What about a half fretted bass? Ibanez had one in their Musician range, played by Alphonso Johnson. I think Fernandes picked up the idea and had it as a custom option. Brown's Guitar Factory (www.brownsguitarfactory.com)makes the "Fretted/less" (demo at: [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-9wY57AZIs"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-9wY57AZIs[/url] ) and I just read that Doctor Of The Bass has one made by Doug Wilkes (see my recent Wilkes thread). Well, I have seen them made for basses as well. They would allow you to keep your bass on while playing the one held in the stand.
