Seen for sale: Overwater neckthrough 4 string '91, mahagony body with quilted maple top, 4 in line tuners, thin narrow neck, 24 frets, 2 HB's, Overwater bridge, original body shape. Can't get a picture up - don't know the model name. What do you guys think - is it worth GBP 450?
The pic u have put up is of an Overwater C bass ( that actual pic is from a shop called
Oasis Music' website and that bass was allegedly built for Andrew Bodnar of the Thompson Twins, it sold for 1.5K )

If ur seller has a C bass ( it should say so on the headstock ) it effectively has a different tuning from normal -The low E is a C but cant remember wot the rest of the tuning is.

If its in good condition grab it!

I will!
It's not a C-bass, has a similar shape but more rounded body. Still looking for the model name - may know more tomorrow!

Best of luck but if u decide to pass on it let me know. How you getting on with your steiny sale?

Steiny has left the building at 21:45 today...do you have a picture of your Overwater Original? Love to see yours!

Wow BB - that's beautiful!!!
Very similar to "mine", body shape looks a tiny bit different, pickups (Kent Armstrong?) closer together, Overwater bridge, unbound rosewood fingerboard (yours is ebony?) - I hope to pick it up tomorrow night and will post some good pictures!
Thanks, BB! Is it your main bass?

Wow both of those are really interesting! I love the Overwater Original shape basses. My fretted 5-string was the first really good bass I owned, and I've had a fascination for them ever since.

Barnacle Bob, There's some interesting contouring going on on the front of the body of yours, plus the bound neck is quite unusual. I've seen another 4-string (fretless)with similar pickups, but I don't recall the contouring on the front of the body being like that.

JanSpeeltBas, The body shape on the one you've posted isn't quite as extreme as the Originals, but then it appears to be later than the ones you usually see. £450 is about the right price for a second-hand Original-shape 4-string at the moment, so if it's what you want go for it.

Hopefully Chris May will be along soon, and give you some more information. If not post the photo in the Overwater forum (under Basschat affiliates and you should get a reply).

Having seen these I think it's definitely time to start and Overwater thread in the Porn section!

Hello chaps,

This one was not Andrews' C Bass (which was # 1 and as far as I know, he still has it) - the top on the one in the pic’ is burl/quilted Poplar, while Andrews' bass had a top of Australian Lacewood with a satin finish (the only other C Basses with that top/finish where made for David Gilmour and Dill Katz + one other that went to a shop in London).

The blue bass with the ‘less extreme’ body shape is either a later version of an ‘Artisan’ (mid 80’s) or short lived ‘Fusion’ (late/mid 80’s). And the passive 'Original' with the contoured top came from very early 80’s or even 1979...

So there you go!

Chris

And thats why they invented the word 'Allegedly'
I had contacted Chris about that C bass as i was quite interested but aint got arms like a baboon :)

The chap I bought mine from had said He had been in touch with you several times re info/work on the bass - I cant remember what his name was.
Anyway I thnk it is awesome (as my teenage kids would say) More power to yer router!

Well, here it is! I really love it...more pictures after I've cleaned her up...there's no serial no., only the marking 1/2 at the side of the control cavity. Really like to know the 'official' model name. Thanks Chris, you build awesome basses that deserve much more attention beyond the UK. And thank you BB for your posts - The seller turned out a real nice guy and actually let it go for the equivalent of GBP 375. Incredible!

Wow! It's very unusual to see an Overwater on Marktplaats. Do you still have the bass? I've been using them for years.
What kind of headstock does it have, BTW? A Progress headstock or the Original Series type?

Hi Kees...
haven't been around here for a long time and just read your comment. I still have it, but it's sadly gathering dust. The last few years I fully turned to playing upright and I just don't play regular electric bass anymore. It's an original type of headstock. I know it's quite rare, but there's a guy living close to me who has another one...I presume that's the one Nels Busch (Frank Boeijen Groep) used to play after he sold his Wal basses. If you're interested in seeing more of it I can send you pictures...the Overwaters are real beauties!

Hi, Jan.

I'd love to see a few pics if you have some. I have to admit, I'm not really familiar with nels Busch, and I'm not sure that the guys at Overwater know of him. I know of a handful of Overwaters in the Netherlands, one of them an Artisan, and also a few in Belgium.

Regards,

Kees
