BassAgent Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I looooove my 1973 Mustang. However, not a big fan of the strings yet. When I bought it, I immediately put the "classic" Labella Mustang flats on it. But, as Labellas tend to do IME: the E-string is dead. Like, really dead. I'd like to replace the strings with different flats. Relatively high tension (so TI flats are out), string through body. So far, I've narrowed the choice down to: -D'Addario ECB81M -Galli JF4505M -Fender 9050L Any other advice? Quote
BassAgent Posted 7 hours ago Author Posted 7 hours ago Aaaaaaand it's in the wrong subforum. Sorry 'bout that people. Mods, please move😅 Quote
fretmeister Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago The JMJ model comes with the Fender flats so they will work. I think they sound great - I sometimes have them on my Lionel. When new they are brighter than the La Bellas but react well to the tone control. I think the feel under the fingers of the Fender Flats is a lot nicer than the La Bellas and I do like La Bellas as well. The Fenders are a lot less grabby when the fingers get a bit sweaty. I have not tried the others. Quote
Lozz196 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I’ve found Fender flats to be high tension and as above the JMJ Mustangs come with them. And of all the flats that have come on the various Mustangs I’ve had imo the Fenders sounded best with them, you can get the thump but also highs and aggressiveness if needed. Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I have tried several different sets of flats on my mustangs, but I am now happy with D'Addario Chromes which I have on all of them, specifically the ECB81M 32" set. They aren't as dark sounding as the LaBellas. I'd love to try Ernie Ball Cobalt flats on a mustang but EB don't make a 32" set. Quote
