Ah, part of the modded 55-01 club I see ☺️

Si

Indeed!

& the modded 55-02 club if you consider the vintage tint lacquer on the neck a mod 😁

I'm waiting for the 55-64 to come back in stock then that's me done buying basses! (Honest Guv 😂)

Skyline 55-64’s have been discontinued for a few years have they not?!

Could easily order a US custom though.

Well that sucks, a custom US is a bit out of reach for me at the minute with the current economic climate that we all face. Second hand market it is!

Well well, look what the cat dragged in. Very much still in the honeymoon phase, but this thing is absolutely immense!

It replaced my Lakland 55-60 Vintage J, which played great but I didn't get on with the Jazz bass thing. I just need to accept that bridge humbuckers and active electronics is where I live.

Very nice indeed!

I really really want another 44-64, but not enamoured with a lot of the Skyline specs/colours/weights that (rarely) come up for sale. So will likely be a custom US order at some point when times are a bit easier.

Small update, but added the nicer plastic knobs from the xx-02/xx-94 models to my 55-01 a while ago.

A bit lighter compared to the metal barrel knobs, and makes the bass look a 'little more Lakland' in my opinion haha.

Flanked by my custom US 44-PJ (as I'm now calling it).

I don’t have bas GAS anymore - but that PJ has to be one of the nicest basses on basschat

Very kind. I'm still super happy with the spec. Think I pretty much nailed it, and Lakland built the hell out of it :)

So here's a nice announcement: shortly after New Year's (hurray for mail not working after Christmas) this gorgeous machine is going to come my way:

Ooo, is that the one from Andy Baxter’s? Soooo nice!

It is! Andy suggested not to ship it before New Year's because the payment probably won't arrive before Tuesday, which would make it difficult to have the bass arrive before Christmas. So to avoid the risk of having the bass sit in a cold shipping facility somewhere we've agreed to postpone shipping until January.

Lakland 55-94 ('98) fretless. On request, Lakland sent me a pickguard without screw holes which is a perfect fit, and gives an appearance akin to my fretless '79 Musicman Stingray

I prefer it without the plate, but wonderful looking Lakkie regardless!

I have a lefty version of this bass and have been playing it over Christmas (re-taught myself the Alphonso Johnson/Jeffrey Osbourne line 'Stay with me Tonight').  It's an incredibly stable bass....keeps its tuning.  Quite lively pickups...much more what I imagine a 70's Jazz to sound like, despite all the early Jazz references.  Great all rounder bass.

I'll play...

Here are my two Lakland Skyline 55-02's. I've had them for a while now, and they're absolutely fantastic instruments. Bought the purple one first, then added the black sparkle one as a back-up, cos they're that good!

The black sparkle one is just shy of 9.5 lbs and the purple one is a shade over 10lbs.

9.5 is decent for a Lakkie 5er, same as my 55-01.

Yeah, they're not too bad weight-wise. I can still manage a 3hr set with a wee 20min break thrown in the middle! 🙂

The thing is they balance well, which is half the battle when it comes to weight. So yeah, I frequently do 2+ hours with mine too.

Yep, you're right, very well balanced basses. I haven't had any hint of neck dive from either of mine. I also use kinda wide-ish/grippy Levy's straps, so that helps too! 🙂
