ped Posted May 2, 2022 Share Posted May 2, 2022 I presume they’re referring to the Roland GK2B pickup as multi channel, which it technically is, but it will only output that latency free to a Roland GK device or a ‘breakout box’ which will output each string separately but the box pictures doesn’t look like such a device. The other way it’ll work is through a MIDI device but there’s a bit of latency as that requires pitch to midi conversion (the Roland pickup is often incorrectly called a midi pickup) 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Stars Guitars (Luthier Hideo Kamimoto), who did the modification for 'Geraldine', also provided Marcus' first preamp for his '77 Jazz Bass. Marcus Miller: "Things only got better after New York luthier Roger Sadowsky installed a Stars Guitars preamp in 1979, extending the pickguard in the process. bloke_zero Posted May 2, 2022 Author Share Posted May 2, 2022 I assume the Roland is a later addition - that would be mid eighties right? Head hunters is ‘73. So I’m assuming that Hideo put together some kind of multi output pickup? That is what I’m interested in. They were doing that on guitar pretty early on - I remember seeing a paisley tele with pan pots for each string in the early eighties. If I was Marcus I’d be interested in stealing that tone in ‘73 - I’m assuming it’s somewhat tongue in cheek! Not that he literally tried to steal it! Sounds like a multi coil with output per string? as ive just found paul jackson and the herbie handcock flood live album i have been digging to get as much info on paul jackson. his bass you showed is a telecaster bass neck. the body is a brand begging with B (the interview sound quality was bad so i cant tell. sounds like beacon but it isnt) bartolini hi-a pick ups, has a signal for each string then one for bass. speaks about it on here. i cant remember when maybe before half way. good listen any how. maybe you can hear what bass body it is. im so blown away with his playing. oh he used dead roundwound 66 strings 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
