Hello guys n gals,

Selling my beloved MIJ 51 p bass ri (model OPB-1 EX) in the difficult to find two tone burst that even though not historically an available colour in 51, in my opinion looks much better than the school bus yellow type.

Anyhow, the bass is in great shape with just a couple of minor dings from many years of gigging.

This is the 50th anniversary 1996 (early) version with the large ferrules that are flush to the body.

No routing under the pickguard, so looks cool without it too.

Frets are fine, also no breaks and funny stuff.

Fully upgraded electronics such as full size CTS pots , Luxe phonebook cap, Switchcraft jack, Evidence audio cable and Seymour Duncan SCPB 1 pickup that has been modded to flat pole for better string balance (original pup included).

Full cavity graphite shielding to keep it a quiet as possible.

Also included are the bridge and pickup covers.

Never got around to adding the slot head screws and bakelite saddles, otherwise not much to be jealous of from a Custom Shop job besides nitro paint job and (not everybody's fave) 1.75 nut.

Weight is a super comfy 4.057 Kg.

Shipping out of Athens, Greece.

Hi Johnny , nice bass ! Any chips or dents on the neck or body ? I know you stated that there is hardly any fret wear too ? Any idea what the posting and shipping is as here in the uk we get stung by receiving overseas too. Much respect 🙏🏽 Paul

Hi Paul, thanks mate. I'll look into it tomorrow about shipping to the UK. I should have figured this out before posting!

As far as dings etc nothing of significance (to me) just regular playware.

I'll post the most obvious ones in the morning as I'm on my way to a jam.

Thanks Johnny, do you have any pictures without the pick guard? Also the ding on the fretboard is it a crack or the lacquer that’s chipped off ? What bit of the neck too ? I hope you don’t mind the questions as it’s not though I can pop round to look 😆 many thanks 🙏🏽

Hi Paul, hope you’re well man. Absolutely not a problem with any question mate. It’s a chip on the laquer on the board. Probable cause is some nitwit tossing crap stagebound!!! Abot the backside of the neck the thing that looks like a scratch is from a crappy stand but I can’t feel it While playing. Pick guard less pic coming your way as soon as I get home. Also sorry about not getting a shipping quote will try to sort it out tomorrow. Long days work today…

Johnny you have been a star & love the bass !! It all now depends on shipping and import tax and post etc as it could br more than the bass ☺️  Brexit stinks . Would can be your best price on the Bass ? Then shipping etc , but I am interested of course. Lovely bass 🙏🏽

Hi Paul. I couldn't get a clear answer for import duties to the UK anywhere but I did find a UK import duty calculator and cost sums to about 240 pounds.

Regarding shipping DHL lady said about 90 pounds with the long shipping (about 2 weeks time) and about 250 pounds for the quick one (about 3 days time) but to get a exact quote bass needs to be packed for shipping and exact dimensions and weight have to be calculated.

I know what Brexit did to imports but I guess it has its pros and cons.

It will be shipped in a soft case but bulletproof bubble wrapped and boxed..

Have shipped lots of gear over the years so no prob.

@RedEarth A rough but pretty bang on costing method for importing gear is (item cost + shipping) + 25%

Example:

£1000 bass + £100 shipping = £1100

£1100 + 25% (£275) = £1375

This would allow for Import Duty, VAT and any handling charges added on.

There are threads and threads on this subject but the formula above is well mentioned and will give you a good pointer as to what will be likely added on.
