A violin bass with a misleading decal

This is a definite case of ripoffery. The hofner case was there to reinforce the lie that it was a hofner. The person who bought it could have done a bit of due dillegence and compared the headstock shape with a real one, but you can't blame someone for not knowing what they don't know.

I did report this as a counterfeit instrument as it has a fake logo which it shouldn't be sold with, but as usually happens, ebay seemingly chose not to do the research to confirm what I told them - which could be done in less than a minute on google.

That matches my experience precisely. They do not care in the slightest and are so big that no one will be able to dent their profits. I have lost count of the fakes I have reported that they ignore. Even when it’s a clearly illegal sale, e.g. pile of rust and a V5, or ringing kit as it should be known, they don’t care (although in that case the DVLA certainly do).
