Ibanez SR replacement for PJ bass ?

Hi all

I've recently set up my SR500, that a fast and comforable neck is a revelation, feels so easy in the hand. However, I often do performances that need sounds I'd get from a P bass, or PJ combination

This leads to several questions;

- Is there an Ibanez bass that has the SR neck and a PJ pickup configuration ?

- If there is such a bass, are the pickups close to the positions of a PJ bass relative to the position of the bridge ?

- Are the pickups exchangable for aftermarket pickups for P and J basses ?

I fang Q

There are a few sr pj alike models.

The older 80s early 90s sr 400 and 500

Sr750

Sr800 Japan there's one for sale on here, was another on sale here until recently.

Sr1000e

90s sr2000

Im a big sr fan, find the ergonomics famtastic. But never found one i trully loved sound wise. However

Oh and no sr with a pj combo, sounds like a traditional p bass or jazz or combo. But are closer than the soap bar models I suppose.

The Mk1 Barts in the likes of My SR600 look like are Reverse P coils in a Soap Bar.

Agreed an 'SR300P' with a Single P... Maybe Reverse P as is Ibanez' way...Preferably Passive... Or an 'SR300PJ' like the GSR200 but with the Pebble SR Body and Slimmer Neck of the SR.

My 1989 MIJ SR800 has a PJ configuration and its had the original pickups replaced to EMG PJX with an EMG preamp. Gloss painted neck which is not to everyone’s taste. Like someone said earlier they come up on here from time to time and amazing neck and build quality. This is my main player now.ECEFF464-F690-473D-9030-0455EA832C42.thumb.jpeg.036dec7cc6a533a4706e20982e2cafce.jpeg

This was how I first got it;

Do you know if the pickups fit without modifying the bass at all? Cheers. Pete

Pete, I can’t say for certain as they were in it when I got the bass. When I’ve had them out, there doesn’t look like any extra routing has been done.

Thank you. Seems likely so. File that away for later use so. Cheers.
