I will not buy Musicman basses.

I will not buy Fender basses.

Hm! Interesting debate! The basses I’ve had most have been limelight P basses and Stingrays.

Having gone from sandberg, headless Ibanez’s, custom boutique basses…

Limelight Precision 4 - Stingrays 4, so far.

I may need that short scale Ray to settle the score 😂

s it worth the price difference? Well, yes and no. The EBMM is actually a lot better but also about twice the price (on the second hand market) than an SB14. I do think the EBMM is a better investment, if I'd want to sell it again. The SB14 is bloomin' great, though.

I think this is a good summary of our own moral financial justifications and budgets lol

No one's been able to provide a compelling reason why I should.

I don’t think there is a compelling reason to eat pies, visit New York or drive an Aston Martin.

However mmm pies 🤤🤤

Swear I've seen a post from you recently talking about a new Fender Squier you've bought.

The pie IS the compelling reason to eat it.  It is its own self contained reason to be eaten.  It's just as well they're easy to make - if they were a creature they'd have gone the way of the dodo long ago!

Gratuitous pie porn

In Scotland we've got you vegetarians covered.  Sometimes I prefer a macaroni pie to a steak pie, they're that good anyway.

Finally, have a picture of a good old pork pie.

All at least 30 mins before lunch, I am so cruel :)

Well done I think you have succeeded in concluding that the answer to Sterling vs MusicMan is pie. In all varieties.

I think pie is a satisfactory answer to most problems.  Let's say you have two people kicking lumps out of each other in the street.  Are you seriously telling me that if I had two hot pies on me and I said "if you two stop fighting now, you can each have a pie" that they wouldn't at least consider stopping?

@jd56hawk - if you stop putting the same effing picture of your basses up in almost every thread you participate in, I'll give you a pie?

Worth a shot... ;)

Problem is there will always be a Putin who would want both pies and the bakery.

With one notable exception.

Actually several...they're prices better and look better, and the CV sounds better than any MIM I've ever played.

I’ve played some great CV’s. I’ve owned some better MIM Fenders. The Vintera 50’s P and Nate Mendel P for example. So do 2 brand new CV’s make a better purchase than a used Vintera or Nate or Flea? We would all have our opinions but mine would be no.

I'll say better than any Player series basses.

As for the MIMs that cost $1,000 plus, I sure hope Fender makes good basses in that price bracket...and I've recommended the Vintera P basses several times before...but they're simply not for me.

Well, I have both at home right now. Not Stingrays, but Sterlings. I borrowed a Sterling SB14 from a friend, and shortly after bought a '93 EBMM Sterling. The SB14 is really really good. Like, for that price, insanely good. It's light, the neck is great, it sounds like a proper Music Man, the hardware is good and I really like the colour.

The EBMM is however a different ball park: the neck is a bit chunkier than the SB14 (but only a little bit), has some crazy birdseye figuring on it, the hardware is a lot better than the SB14 and the sound has more depth and "feel" to it.

Is it worth the price difference? Well, yes and no. The EBMM is actually a lot better but also about twice the price (on the second hand market) than an SB14. I do think the EBMM is a better investment, if I'd want to sell it again. The SB14 is bloomin' great, though.
