For the eagled eyed and "Vintage " players among us will probably be able to spot this, as the younger players who never

experienced the delights a cancer infested smokey pub /club /gig perhaps not.....no offence or discrimintion intended folks 🤐

note the dark mark near the tuning peg E string..what is it?

headstock is a 1962 Jazz

I'm guessing J rather than P?

Scorch mark from smokin' bass solo.

Or a fag.

Edit:  may be an urban legend, but apparently when Eric Clapton took his Strat "Blackie" in for a set-up, the tech gave it a full clean, including removal of trademark burn on headstock.   One totally p!ssed off guitar god.....

I guess Clapton's Blackie Strat had the most famous fag burn. I knew two guitarists who deliberately did the same to their black Strats???

Ah, the good old days when you smoked on stage. I haven't smoked for 7 years now but still sort of miss the smokes and lighter on top of my amp under an elastic band so they didn't shake off and engineering enough of a pause between songs to get one lit😆
