Anyone had problems with Bax lately?

I have used Bax many times without issues but had a bloody nightmare on two recent orders. The latest one of which may well end up at the small claims court. Takes an age to speak to anyone, when you do they are incredibly helpful. Or so it seems, but then nothing happens. You ring again (another 30 mins plus waiting time) and again someone very helpful tells you all is well, and again nothing happens. Repeat for two weeks so far.

I am very surprised that you had so few problems before now!

I find they are very good if absolutely nothing goes wrong, but if it does, then they are beyond terrible.

Sounds like I have been lucky so far then! To be fair, I have never had an issue before but getting anything sorted is a bloody nightmare. I won’t be using them again.

I’m reading this and thinking phew, lucky escape maybe. I nearly bought something last week, cost was £201 so qualified for free shipping, entered the Black Friday discount code which took off 7%, immediately shipping was then added as now under the limit, which I thought unfair so decided to not continue. Looks like I may have made a wise choice.

Fortunately it seems my Black Friday purchases from Bax have gone relatively OK.

Tracking took a few days after my shipping confirmation email was received to show anything, but the amp head did arrive today (a day later than my selected delivery date).

I have another order I'm waiting for that I also made over the weekend, tracking just got updated so hopefully I'll get it by the end of the week.

Email responses were slow, it took about 2 days for their customer services to email me back and they weren't very helpful in helping me understand what was going on - fortunately things have started to progress without their intervention.  The reason they gave for the slight delays in delivery and tracking status was just black friday load on both them and the couriers (I opted for Parcel Force).

I bought and returned a bass from Bax without any issue last year. If anything, I really think their return policy is great and they give you 90 days to decide whether you really like your purchase or not. However, from what I read on here, I seem to be in the minority and sounds like I got pretty lucky to have no problems!

I prefer walking into a shop.

Sadly there seem to be only 2 specialists in the UK for Bass gear that I'm aware of.

Bass Direct which is a 4 hr round trip for me and the Bass Gallery who are one of the worst organisations I've ever dealt with.

Yes, their return policy is great. Have you tried using it?

As @Woodinblack said, everything is fine with Bax until there's a glitch and then the nightmare starts.

I ordered a Sire P10 in early September that was in stock, then after a few days, not seeing anything moving I gave a phone call, waited the 30 minutes, got a very sympathetic guy who told me that my order had been cancelled because of the payment method chosen (!?!) but never got any message saying that...

So I ordered it again and paid through PayPal this time, then got the usual message saying that everything was ok with a delivery date chosen by me on the following week, and then the delays started almost each and every day for a few weeks !!!

After some time, I cancelled the order and asked for a refund.

And the nightmare started: phone calls with the same sympathetic guys, promises, emails never answered, ...

So I ended up opening a claim by PayPal and they waited until the last day before the claim becomes official and legal to refund.

Never again !

And that is fine is it?

I suppose in the end it worked out but certainly wasn't as straight forward and hassle free as returns to shops like Andertons or GAK. I'd probably avoid using Bax if I thought there was much chance of wanting to return the product for a refund.

Yup, after about 2 weeks I notified them about the extended return and ended up sending it back after living with it for about 2 months. I got my refund, without any chasing, about a week after the bass left my possession. So I appear to have been in luck 😃

If anything, the hardest bit was dealing with the shops for the drop off point. I tried 3 of the local Hermes (I think it was them anyway) drop off points, each shop refused to take the bass because of the size of the package (fnarr, fnarr). A quick call to Hermes customer service though and they arranged for a courier to come to my house the next day, so pretty decent in the end.

Just used them to buy something that isn't available elsewhere.

Turns out the reason it isn't available elsewhere is because it isn't available, full stop.

Bax were still happy to take the money though.

Let's see how hard it is to get the (very small) amount of money back from them...

This is why I’m happy to drive a couple of hours to pickup a bass. I just can’t be dealing with the hassle anymore.

Yeah, unless it's a particularaly cheap Bass then I've always gone to collect seeing as they are quite big/heavy and relatively delicate things to be posting around and are quite valuable, and there's always the chance of them not working properly so I'd prefer to try before buying.  The same goes in reverse for selling second hand, I'd prefer not to put it to chance of getting lost or broken in the post of the buyer deciding that a small scratch means they want a refund etc.

Fortunately if PayPal see the word Bax they refund immediately, it seems.....

What is this mythical Hermes customer service you speak of? They are impossible to contact, I have searched everywhere for a number to contact a human being and it always ended up with the same bot chat crap with no suitable options. Reading around they are notoriously impossible to contact. If you have a number that works you could make a lot of people very happy!

However in this case it turned out that it wasn’t actually Hermes to blame (although their appalling tracking system and contact issues above added to the hassle). It looks like the issue has been finally sorted but according to my phone I have spent just under 4 hours on to them, I waited in a day for a non existent delivery, my Father in law did the same, someone will have to wait for the replacement. So far from a decent service, I could be wrong but I wonder if my stating that I would seek recompense in the small claims court could have been the reason that my last email was answered whereas the others weren’t. It’s sad as they have some great stuff you can’t find elsewhere but it’s just not worth the hassle.

Ah, apologies for getting your hopes up and giving Hermes false credit - I've just checked my emails and it was UPS who sorted the collection.

Do you mind if I ask what's wrong with the bass gallery

If you don't want to get into it that's cool 😀👍

These are my personal experiences, I'm sure like with Bax others have dealt with them no problem at all.

A few years ago I bought a cab from them, advertised as having free delivery.  They called me up after I placed the order and told me I had to pay delivery.

I reluctantly agreed (i shouldn't have), took the day off work waiting for the delivery and unsurprisingly it never showed up.  Didn't even respond to my email or return my call complaining about it I just got a delivery schedule notification from the courier for a couple of days later.

A year or so later I was selling a bass, no joy on here so I emailed them asking them about selling via their shop and asking for details about commission etc.  Didn't even bother responding to me.

Appalling customer service from my perspective, once they had my money they couldn't give a shit so as a consumer I avoid them now.
