MIJ Squier Silver Series Jazz, MIJ - £350 in Preston

Recommended Posts

£350 is a fairish price for a MIJ Silver Squier Jazz . I own one and they're good instruments. The pickups are darker sounding than your average Jazz Bass which I like.

Mine was bought about 10 years ago for £250. They originally went for about £260/270 back in the early 90s.

The ones you're probably thinking about were the early MIJ Squiers from the early 80s. They're a lot more expensive.

For some reason the 90s MIJs go for a fair bit less than any of the 80s Squiers, including the later E & A serials. Would think quality-wise they're exactly the same, maybe the 80s were just 'special'.

Would still think £350 for a Fujigen Jazz is pretty good. They won't lose value.

What's wrong with Preston, just up the road from me.  Happy to go and check it out for any prospective buyers.

Be careful if you're driving there, I heard the motorway is cobbled!

I live close to Preston, in all seriousness I quite like it although it is lacking a decent chippy.

I tell all these southern folk the same as well as that we still have outside toilets and one bath per year whether we need it or not.

I was under the impression that the 80's models coincided with FMIC having to build a new factory in Corona after they bought Fender from CBS in 1985. During the factory build, Japan was the only place building Fender basses, and this supposedly had a positive effect on quality (maybe they were using up USA parts, I dunno) and is why previously Squier badged JV basses subsequently became Fender badged E-series basses.

That bathwater is shared by the whole family as well remember.

My uncle came to visit earlier this year, he told us some lovely tales of when him and my dad were kids and they used to race to have the first bath as both knew the other would wee in it.

Because obviously those stupid people at Fendre can't spell!

Squier was the name of a string company which Fender owned from the 60's and they chose to keep the name for the budget guitar  range when they started up in japan  in 82
