John East - passive/active switch

Just looking for a quick answer - is it possible to install and (more importantly) operate a John East Uni-Pre 3 (or 4/5) without the active/passive switch (so it's active all the time?).  Or would I just install the pre-amp and leave it in the 'on' position in the cavity?  Thinking of installing one on a bass I'd prefer not to make a hole in.

This may help someone moving forward - I spoke to John, he said there's a method of putting a jumper over the terminals that the switch uses so the bass is always active (ie no passive switching option).  He just said that if you want this at an option you need to include this in the order and he'll include this jumper in the pack.  Good to know.

I suppose once I convert a bass, realistically I'm never going to go passive again!
