NBD. Squier Precision 70's Bass.

This is a bit of a revelation for me having never owned a P Bass before. Right away ive noticed that this bass makes me play very differently. I don't know what it is about a P Bass but the feel/neck and the tone makes me slow my playing down. Im quite amazed that you can buy a bass of this quality for this much money. It seriously is a very well put together instrument.  Ive been playing it all afternoon and im at a loss to find anything bad about it.

I have a Squier Standard PJ - you can pick them up for around £150 - like B5 I was surprised how good a bass it is for such little money.

 

There are lots of basses for not much currently that deserve more recognition - this is one of them.

Since slow isn't always meant as a compliment, I like to think of the P-bass making me play with greater poise

I rue the day I sold mine. It went for a ridiculous price as well. I hated the antique burst but I should have kept it and refinished.

Looks brilliant. Great colour combo  what strings are you using on it? Lots of fun to be had experimenting!

I have always really liked the look of these. I played one in a shop, years ago, and it was superb.
Never got around to buying one (I've long been in the position of already having too many basses to justify it - lol)

Anyhow, I bought a block & bound CV Jazz neck from here on BC, and put it on a Squier VM P/J Precision body (also bought here on BC) - and I love it.
Sometimes I wish the body was black, like this one - sometimes I'm glad it's sunburst.

Cracking basses which punch way above the price range IMHO. My preferred gigging P bass is one of the earlier CV's in Sonic blue - it's my fave P bass ever  
If I was looking for another bass, I'd definitely want one of these, particularly as they are brilliant value second-hand.

Im not sure tbh mate. Think they might be DRs. Not sure i need to change the pickups as they sound great. I may change the tuners. Will see.

I have one of these current-series Classic Vibe 70s (I think they were announced in 2019) and it's great.  I did some recording earlier in the year and used this bass over a Sandberg VM (since sold).  I found the stock tuners were fine but I swapped to some Hipshots I already had lying around.  I shielded the cavity as there was one venue where I got quite a bad buzz (have not been back there, so dunno if it has helped; no buzzing problem anywhere else).  Stock pickups sound good to me, so leaving those alone.  The neck is really nice - I love playing this bass.  The 1 5/8" nut width is pretty standard, but the front-to-back depth is slimmer than a normal P bass.  My other bass is a much more expensive Maruszczyk Jake: the Jake gets more play time as it's a 5-string, otherwise I'd play the CV all the time.

The Fender site lists all three of the CV Ps as having a 1 11/16" nut (42.8mm rather than 41.3mm)

Hi @jrixn1 -  the stock pickups sound great in my older (China made) CV too. I did briefly swap them for a Fender Vintage pickup, but I the difference was barely noticeable. Since then I have another project for the pickup - so I put the stock ones back in. Yes, the necks on CV's are just lovely, and I love playing mine too

This looks super nice, congrats. I still remember and regret not buying a couple of Classic Vibes I've tried. My friend's CV Tele is also one of the best guitars I have ever played. 

 

I also had this impression about not having to play as much on a P bass. It's almost as if it sounds better played more sparsely, because each note needs time to bloom. Also, you can play licks higher up and not necessarily lose the groove (depending on the playing really) as it still sounds meaty. Js can need more notes to occupy the space, and thin out as pitches go up. Oh sorry, I thought it was the daily PvsJ on talkbass 🤷🏼‍♂️

That’s a good way of describing classic Precision playing @such
