I used to play this tune at college and in funk bands in Newcastle in my younger days great tune.

I also love an album by BB King called "Midnight believer" which was The Crusaders as the backing band and Pops Powell was on it. He played on a frw tracks on Randy Crawford's first couple of Albums.

Later Wilton Felder started playing more and they used Abraham Laboriel! All beautiful players😍

Superb band, I still have "Those Southern Knights" on vinyl along with a few of their other albums. I also saw them in around the mid-70's although, regretfully, Larry Carlton couldn't make it and was replaced by Billy Rogers. Still a great gig, though, and one of a string of three amazing gigs I saw within a few weeks of each other, that being The Crusaders followed by Return To Forever followed by Weather Report. (Those were the days! ;))

Amazing bass playing from one of my favourites. He just gets more and more creative as this cracker of a jazz funk record progresses.

Larry Carlton on Guitar, Wilton Felder tenor sax, Joe Sample Keys.

Over the Basschat years, BB5, I think myself and yourself have posted up 'Spiral' more times than the Crusaders have played it live...:D

I love the way 'Pops' attacks the notes and gets stuck in during the solo, all while holding the groove down.

Top, top playing from the man.
