My oldest lad informs me that 'Tom Robertson' has played Bass in Jake Bugg's band for about six years, so there's a good chance it might be him.

Jack Atherton from Nottingham is his drummer.

I would take a guess that the members of his touring band don't go anywhere near the studio when he's recording.

Wrong, his studio band is his live band too. The drummer is a close friend of mine, and they are all Notts chaps.

I'm surprised at that because, if I'm not mistaken, his last album was mostly Nashville guys including Dave Roe on bass, and the excellent Fred Eltringham on drums.

The great 'Gene Chrisman played Drums on quite a few tracks on that Jake Bugg Nashville album as well. He was a top studio player years ago and played on a lot of great southern/mid west sessions.

Quite a CV including Elvis, Aretha, Dusty Springfield. The list is endless.

I know he is getting on a bit but, he's still playing by the looks of it. Here he is this year with Dave Roe.

...but on a forum which is supposedly for people who love bass guitars...

It's called 'Basschat', not 'Bassguitarchat'. Jus' sayin'. 😉

Personally I'm just here for the Kargyraa style of Tuvan throat singing posts.
