World's First Bass?

Not a 'bass guitar' per se, but Tutmarc's bass fiddle is unquestionably the first electric bass, fretted, & intended to be played more like a guitar than a double bass.

It wasn't a spectacular success but it would seem wildly improbable that Leo wasn't aware of it.

I've a hazy memory that the TB Tutmarc owner also has the first P-bass to roll off the production line.

Yeah, there's a photo in that thread of his Tutmarc alongside the first bass that was sold by Fender, not sure if it was the first one made though. He's also got at least another six 1951 P basses in his collection.
