I'm claiming cunning stunts, even though I'm sure it's probably already taken

A Caravan album from the '70s, probably why you've never heard of it!

The excellent Dreadnoughts are currently made up by:

  • The Fang, Guitar and Vocals
  • Wormley Wangersnitch, Violin
  • Leroy "Slow Ride" McBride, Accordion and Vocals
  • Drew Sexsmith, Mandolin, Banjo and Vocals (sometimes known as the Dread Pirate Druzil)
  • Squid Vicious, Bass
  • The Stupid Swedish Bastard, Drums

My faves from the early days of tributes in the UK were:

The Six Pastilles - Sex Pistols tribute

The Small Fa(e)ces - Small Faces tribute who were often described as "a little bit *profanity filter*") ;)

Except that Wormley and The Dread Pirate Druzil (his real name is actually Drew Sexsmith) have left and been replaced by Aled Jenkins (ex Smokey Bastard) on mandolin with Leroy (aka Seamus O'Flanaghan in previous incarnations of the band) covering fiddle and acccordian duties.

Fang (AKA Uncle Touchy) occasionally plays with my band as Vinnie Blue (on accordian or mandolin or whatever he's into on that particular day) and stepped in on guitar for a small USA tour when our guitarist flounced off in a huff 10 days berore the tour started.

These guys get my vote for best stage names:

Ladies and germs, I give you

GWAR

 Ben Eubanks -Johnny Slutman),

Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus),

Russ Bahorsky (Mr. Magico)

Steve Douglas (Jaws of Death),

Chris Bopst (Balsac)

Sean Sumner (Hans Sphincter).

As of Brockie's death in 2014, Gwar currently features no original members, with a lineup of rhythm guitarist Mike Derks (Balsac the Jaws of Death)

drummer Brad Roberts (Jizmak Da Gusha, since 1989)

lead guitarist Brent Purgason (Pustulus Maximus, since 2012)

lead vocalist Mike Bishop (Blöthar the Berserker, since 2014)

bassist Casey Orr (Beefcake the Mighty, most recently since 2019).

There have been a few others in between these incarnations of the band...

Hank Wangford's band The Lost Cowboys has had lots of great players over the years who were given pseudonyms - these include Brad Breath, Jett Atkins, Manly Footwear, (the great pedal steel player BJ Cole) George Hamilton VI, and female vocalist Irma Cetas.

If I ever get famous I'm totally ditching my full name in favour of a stage name. Mainly because I don't want my now ex husband, who's surname I still have, to get any credit 🤣

Couldn’t you change it back via deed poll?

EDIT - just read the start of the thread where you mentioned why not.

Considering that as bass players, we hold down the beat and are often required to play root notes, some variation on Beetroot should have possibilities as a stage name.

Maybe someone should start a band in which everyone is named after a vegetable. They could call the band 'The Vegetables'.

Or maybe not.

Not sure the idea would take root.

Excellent, thanks for the update - they need to sort thier Wikipedia entry out.

The guy's real name is Drew Sexsmith? Bizarre.
