Zoom B3 AshBass Mod

Has anyone done the AshBass mod to their B3?

https://ashbass.com/AshBassGuitar/Zoom/

I love my B3, but the only thing that annoys me slightly about it, is having to "long press" a switch, before you can scroll through patches. I know this has been rectified with the B3n, but the B3 is a better fit for my needs. I'm attempting this at the weekend, under the watchful eye of a buddy who knows his way around a soldering iron, but I was wondering if any BCers had done this mod and had any words of wisdom?

I’ve done something similar to my MS60B so that I can use the ‘tap tempo’ function remotely.

It’s ‘squeaky bum time’ when you do the drilling, as the inside is *very* snug, but measure twice, cut once!

No, no replies, I'm afraid. Everyone just junked their B3s in favour of a  B3n! I did the mod and it worked really well - i did try to use the wrong switches at first, but once I'd fixed that, all was good.

Fortunately, the B3 is pretty roomy! I was able to use the battery compartment house the cable. Soldering the new lead in was a bit fiddly, but it wasn't as tricky as I thought. I'm delighted with it.

Good man! I ended up using these instructions as they were a little clearer:

https://www.instructables.com/DIY-footswitch-for-zoom-B3-and-zoom-G3/

I also didn't put the output jack on the outer casing - I used the battery compartment. I never use the unit with batteries, so it seemed the logical thing to do and I've removed the battery lead, too. This is what it looks like:

I then taped the lead to the underside of the removable back plate and made a small hole in the outer casing for the lead to slip through -like this:

The fun part was making the housing for it. My mate did most of the soldering, so in his honour, I named it after him.

I used two of these:

Two of these:

and a 50cm 3.5mm stereo jack aux cable (straight to right angle).

Good luck!

I did the Ashbass mod, used the b3 heavily for a few years. I'll see if I can dig some photos out.

Really easy to do and well worth it! I actually got a b3n but preferred the sounds on the older b3 so I stuck with it for a while. Loved how the looper worked on it too.

Wow! Ok then….I henceforth challenge myself!

Nice job!
