Crimes against rhymes

...'You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht/Your hat strategically dipped below one eye, your scarf it was apricot'...

Simple coincidence and Good Luck. Just imagine : a cloud obscures the bright sunlight, to reveal the truth ...

'You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht/Your hat strategically dipped below one eye, your scarf it was mustard'.

Shock horror, eh..? -_-

Does the next line ends in 'custard'?

Steve Miiler abuses rhyme and grammar:

Billy Mack is a detective down in Texas
You know he knows just exactly what the facts is
He ain't gonna let those two escape justice
He makes his livin' off of the people's taxes

"You had one eye on the mirror as you watched yourself make custard
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner, they'd be your partner"

It works, but it certainly paints a different picture.

Could this be a crime against rhyme? Surely it's criminal somehow. At least I didn't have to be the one out in front singing it.

Quote

Come on pretty baby let's sell our souls to Satan,
Shake it baby, shake my honey, Old Nick's waitin',
The Prince of Darkness wants to claim your soul,
He'll get it through the influence of Rock & Roll.
They say that when you die eternal life's real swell,
But for sex, booze and drugs you're better off in hell!
Those born again Christians have got nothing on,
Satanic sex rituals that last all night long.

Hail Satan!

The tune.

"Those born again Christians have got nothing on,
Satanic sex rituals that last all night long."

Y'know, I'm pretty sure that there's a comma in the wrong place.

Unless he knows a lot of born again Christians who like to get back to nature ...

That's a song?.................... That's what I base my life goals on!

I don't think any discussion of ropey lyrics and rhymes would be complete without a mention of Life by Des'ree. Behold this abomination from the mid-90s!

I'm afraid of the dark,
Especially when I'm in a park
And there's no-one else around,
Oh, I get the shivers

I don't want to see a ghost,
It's a sight that I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast
And watch the evening news

Life, oh life, oh life, oh life,
Doo, doot doot dooo.
Life, oh life, oh life, oh life,
Doo, doot dooo

EDIT: I see casapete beat me to it!

one that sets my teeth on edge is Macca's She's A Woman

My love don't give me presents

I know that she's no peasant

Not keen on Mr Rotten's effort either

I am the antichrist

I am an anarchist ( mispronounced to make it rhyme)

TBF it must have annoyed the hell out of him to have thought up the great couplet only to find it doesn't quite rhyme 😃

The singer of that horror was attempting to parody the original, where Cliff lyrics seem to be "ballads and calypsos have got nothing on, real country music that just drives along" AFAICT.

My Generation- Limp Bizkit

"Hey kid, take my advice,

You don't wanna step into a big pile of sh*t"

Thanks Fred Durst I wasn't sure until you said that. It doesn't even rhyme 😂

Durst is a real teacher. This was another gem of his of course. Thanks for the ‘math’.

One, two, three times two to the six
Jolts in for your fix with the Limp Bizkit mix

We got to page 3 before some one mentioned House of Pain, worst offence:

Word to your moms, I came to drop bombs
I got more rhymes than the Bible's got Psalms

However they redeem themselves a little bit with:

Or better yet a Terminator,

like Arnold Schwarzanegger

Yep, that one annoys me too.

Also from Holiday in the sun:

I wanna see some history,

Cos now I've got a reasonable economy

I've always loved this little gem in the Deep Purple catalogue:

Black night is not right
I don't feel so bright
I don't care to sit tight
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
That I'm free, free to be me
Black night is a long way from home

I don't need a dark tree
I don't want a rough sea
I can't feel, I can't see
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
That I'm free, free to be me
Black night is a long way from home

Black night, black night
I don't need black night
I can't see dark light
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
That I'm free, free to be me
Black night is a long way from home
