As promised I started building the second single cut 5. You may have seen the red fretless single cut that is awaiting lacquer.

This is walnut front and back, with alder and veneers. Fingerboard will be Birdseye and I’m going to try using the Shaper to do custom symbols and blind frets.
Two Delano SBC 6’s with 4 band eq.

In theory, I suppose you could have the name of each note for all fret positions.  Not that it would be particularly helpful.  Probably counter productive now I think about it.  Just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean you should.

I like the lemniscate though.  I tried inlaying with powdered metals in resin once but it wasn't great because I hand carved the relief.  You should have better results.

Well the symbol idea didn’t work! Whilst the routing was perfect, when I put black resin in them it bled. I must have sanded 1mm off and it’s still there! Oh well, I’ll flip it over and use on another bass.

That's a shame.  I generally use clear epoxy and mix in ebony dust that I collect when I'm sanding fretboards, etc.  As it isn't a dye, it can't bleed and, as long as you put a decent amount in the mix, it's pretty much jet black.

I did think about a bass clef, but I just wanted them to all be the same. Maybe next bass could have all clefs!

That’s what I meant, but maybe swap through alto and treble as you go up The neck ?
