Where to rest the thumb on early p bass

The pup tape over windings does look quite exposed on that one...

I likes a thumb rest up top, stuck one on the GSR... (now changed from plastic to a wooden one from the bay) as its a reverse p and further back, otherwise i'm thumb on the end of the fretboard.

Lots of people dont like the look and / or use of a thumb rest... and fitting one, (and where, above or below?) may not be in keeping with the models original appearance, like tug bars under on an early P.

look for 'Zero Mod' they might give ideas....

When I had a 50s style Precision, I only rested my thumb on the pickup when I played the E string, the rest of the time it was resting on one of the lower strings. I do that as standard on any bass, so it wasn't a big deal.
