Your most listened-to live album?

By a nautical mile, Genesis, Seconds Out. I’d say it’s my most-listened to album, full stop. First heard it in about ‘78 or ‘79, been listening to it probably at least monthly ever since.

A long way behind would be Hawkwind - Space Ritual, Deep Purple - Made in Europe, Yessongs and Genesis Live. Oh, and Fleetwood Mac Live and Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous behind them. If Sugarcubes - Murder and Killing Live in Hell was an album rather than just a video that would be up there too.

More +1s here for Bill Withers Carnegie Hall and Live After Death.

Jaco , Birthday Concert is a special album.

So many great jazz albums are live. Bill Evans , Montreaux 68 a regular favourite here.

Good shout. The Bill Evans Trio Live at the Village Vanguard 👍

I liked the faster versions.

I don't think it ever got too silly.

Interesting to hear a different viewpoint. I took a quick listen to a couple of tracks from Loco Live, but say it comes close to It's Alive.

These things often depend on how and when you were introduced to the band.

As a comparison here's Cretin Hop from both albums:

I know one of her touring bassists is actually a member on here ( @JimmySims I think). He very kindly put me on the guest list when they played in Guildford a few years ago now.

That’s because he’s an all round good egg. I first met him at the Bass Centre when he and @Nickytwister were trading licks. Both really nice fellas.

The Cure's live album, Entreat, is perfection as far as a live album goes. All the tracks are from their Disintegration album, but every single one is elevated above the studio version. IMO this album contains the best version of Disintegration ever recorded.

Other favorite live albums I have to be in the mood for but I'll happily indulge in Entreat at any time.

OK so they’ve mostly been mentioned before but my top 5 would probably be...

  • Yessongs - Yes
  • A Show Of Hands - Rush
  • Live And Dangerous - Thin Lizzy
  • Exit Stage Left - Rush

and...

  • Live - James  Taylor (some lovely playing by Jimmy Johnson on that album).

Honourable mention to Rory Gallagher’s Live In Europe and Irish Tour ‘74.

Excellent album, so much more than just acoustic versions of their songs.

Agree and what a performance considering that Layne was already in poor shape and Jerry was suffering from food poisoning! They also performed in front of the Metallica blokes. Nice message written on Mike's acoustic bass: Friends Don't Let Friends Get Friends Haircuts 😉
