Celebrating 2020 New Albums

Al Krow

Recommended Posts

I picked up The Dirty Knobs “Wreckless Abandon,” which is the only 2020 album I’ve listened to yet.

Like what I’ve heard of Dua Lipa too.

Also got Ginger Wildheart’s most recent “Headzapoppin” and Springsteen’s latest but haven’t listened to them yet.

I’ve been songwriting lately tho so not really listening to much other music.

I really like the Coriky album that came out this year too. With Ian MacKaye and Joe Lally on board it's a good listen for any fans of Fugazi or if you fancy giving your ears a post punk/indie treat.

😮 Can't believe I missed this! I'm having a listen now - it's cracking stuff. Thanks!

Really enjoyed the new album by testament-  titans of creation. It’s a cracking album- well written, played and produced.

also the despicable ep by carcass is outstanding.

the new Ozzy was surprisingly good as well.
the new my dying bride output this year- ghost of Orion and macabre cabaret I found very enjoyable.

I'm just gobsmacked that DP are still on the road! Respect!

I guess I was more of a Ritchie Blackmore fan and his departure in 1975 and formation of Rainbow followed by the DP line up breaking up in 1976 was it for me...

The current "Mark VIII" lineup of Gillan, Morse, Glover, Airey and Paice is a bit Fleetwood Mac like with drummer Ian Paice being there from the start.

Love the fact you've been putting your time to creative  use!

What set up are using in terms of recording ideas and building up your song lines?

Any finished / uploaded material to share?

Well that's going to be plenty of treadmill time sorted isn't it! 😊

Do you have a link to the article for your magazine?

PopMatters aggregated all the votes into one chart - sadly, none of my picks made the top sixty. Bah humbug. I did get Rush ("Permanent Waves") and The Replacements (Pleased To Meet Me") in the top twenty reissues, tho...

If you want to read my grammatically dubious reviews just click these links. They're not all for PM, a couple are for a brilliant blog ("I Don't Hear a Single") that I sometimes write for:

I’m a total novice to home recording and completely learning on the job (I recorded my second song over my first one for example. V poor effort...)

I’ve been sketching out songs as voice memos on my phone - usually just acoustic guitar and singing - but I’ve started recording them on a Zoom H4n adding in bass, vocals and guitar and manually hitting the pads of a drum machine.

Unfortunately I run out of tracks almost immediately so need to bounce them down. I’ve done this once and can’t find the result!

As I said, a novice...

2.       Kevin Godley: Muscle Memory

Was really looking forward to reviewing this one but found it very patchy and underwhelming. Crowdsourcing the music was an interesting idea but apart from 2 or 3 tracks I found it very average.

Haven't heard all of this yet, but Anton Barbeau's Manbird is good, so far! It's a double album too, didn't think that was a thing any more!

Disclaimer: I'm part of the small choir doing backing vocals on the track Space Force!

P.S. good to see Spygenius getting a mention earlier,  they're lovely folks.

Neither fashionable nor left-field, but I really enjoyed/still enjoying Bruce Springsteen's Letter To You.

Thank goodness you said that 😁

What has definitely got my attention about this thread, is exactly how many of the bands mentioned I have never heard of before!

He’s consistently ace. There’s some fantastic stuff on this record.

Cool, he's still quite a niche artist and not all that well known over here. I was lucky enough to play as part of his backing band in UK gigs, and was on half of his previous album, Kenny vs Thrust (in the band "Thrust", which is really my 3-piece, Charms Against the Evil Eye)
