Fender guitar case

I've recently acquired a 1970s Fender guitar case in superb condition. It is long enough at 118.5cm to take a Precision or Jazz bass, but not wide enough at 31.5cm (internal dimension) as a Precision width is 33 cm, for example Also the end compartment that holds the instrument body is only 50cm and a Precision is 53 cm from the strap button on the top horn to the strap button on the end of the body. Does anyone know what instrument Fender made a case like this for. I was hoping to use it for a vintage Precision, but it won't fit, so now I'm just curious. Any ideas?

Possibly a short scale bass like a Bronco or a Tele bass?

Most of the short scale basses have slimmer bodies.

Are you sure it was for a bass? The Fender solid electric 12 string guitars introduced in the mid 1960s were quite long due to their massive headstock, could it have been for one of those?. Think the shorter scale basses Fender made had smaller length cases IIRC, but could be wrong.

The body compartment is too narrow for an Electric XII but about the right size for a Mustang bass.

But a Mustang bass is 108 cm long vs the case internal length at 118.5.

Might be right for a Bass VI?
