Has anyone built a Cliff Burton Rickenbacker clone?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone :)

As you can see in the title i was wondering if anyone has built a clone of Cliff Burton's famous Rickenbacker. I was wondering if this would be a good idea if i start with a cheap copy.

Thank you for reading ;)

I wouldn't start with a cheap copy if you're going to sink some money into this, I'd start with either a 70's/80's Jap copy - eBay let many more slip through these days than used to be the case - or buy one of the genuine Ric bodies that eBay seller gibsondependable sell, which I did a few years back for around £400 although prices recently have gone through the roof, probably a lot of projects being started during Covid

Do keep in mind that area where the mudbucker goes is pretty vital for the neck's stability. There have been several cases where the neck started bowing forward after rerouting the neck pickup cavity (although those I've seen were 4000's, that don't come stock with a neck pickup). Make sure the model you use is suitable for the mod, and that you don't route the cavity too close to the end of the fingerboard.

Hi all, I'm selling my Alembic MK Signature Deluxe with Coco Bolo top, so here is little about the bass.
Bass has no scratch, no belt buckle scratch, it's almost as brand new, as you can see from pics.
      Scale: 34"
      String spacing: 19 mm
      Fingerboard: Ebony with abalone
      Top: coco Bolo
      Back: Coco Bolo
Body: Mahogany with maple and purplehearth as accent woods
Neck: Maple with Purple Hearth stringers
Finish: clean gloss with satin finish on the neck
weight: 5.7 kg (with 5 9v batteries that goes into the bass, 4x for LED)
      Electronics: volume, pan, 2x filters, 2x q switches, 1x LED on/off, 1/4" mono output.
LEDs are amber and red (check pictures)
Bass was done in 2015, so it has 2+3 machine heads.
Bass has original case, papers, everything. New one like this is 17.600 dollars, you can check here on Alembic site my bass is Sig Dlx Coco Bolo.
This is I think only signature bass in EU that is available with this price. For any questions you can contact me. Here are some pic that justify the whole thing, other pics you can see on my dropbox:

Price says 6000 5600 pounds but it's actually 6500 6300euros, just conversion is different every day.

      >125 editions of the UK Bass Guitar magazine, from 2008 to 2020 ( I think over that time they issued ~183)
All in good nick, plenty of lockdown bass content?
Collection only....all money going to the Hope centre  https://northamptonhopecentre.org.uk/

      Purchased on reverb.
Happy so far, fretboard was well used, gunky shall we say. Gave it a good clean and sanded the back of the neck a little and set up, plays well so far. Got for reduced price, now I know why! Seller was upfront to be fair. I'll give it a few weeks. These are beautiful basses, the white with maple neck and black pg is🤟
Haven't fully played but nice to have active jazz for 250 quid!

After having tried several phasers, some considerably more expensive ones too, I finally settled for a Behringer VP1 Vintage Phaser, and I absolutely love how it sounds.

Exactly the right effect for my application.

However when not engaged it bleeds a swirling background noise that really annoys me and makes it unfit to use for recordings.

It's not really like it actually modulates my signal when not engaged, just adding this annoying background noise to it.

And just so that you know I've already tried running it on it's own dedicated power supply, but without it fixing the issue.

It's a pretty accurate clone of the original big box EHX Small Stone but the new version just doesn't sound the same, and far from as great, even if EHX claims that it is the same circuit, so getting that instead is not an option.

So my question is if there is any way to fix the swirling background noise that the Behringer phaser produces when not engaged, some kind of mod, preferably not too advanced, as I, even if I do know how to solder, am not exactly all that well versed with electronics or comfortable doing complicated procedures?

I would even be willing to pay to have a mod done to it that fixes it.
