Thanks to @AndyTravis I have been alerted to a bass I am after coming up on Facebook, collection only Matlock.  It is exactly what I am looking for :)

Is there anyone out there who would be prepared to pick it up on my behalf, pack it up and courier it?

Or, indeed, start off a relay?

Here's hoping... :)

Paul

Still in Bas?  Please send them my condolences :)

I don't venture into the Belly of The Beast that often these days.  There is a totally fab Indian restaurant in Eastwalk Mrs S and I go to from time to time but that is about it.  In fact last time was last week and construction of the new cinema complex had ground to a halt (for the second time).  Not great timing!

Havent been to Bas since 2012, and that was a funeral,  but yup,  over half my extended family still live there.  Ugh

Edited the title as it looks like this is going ahead.  Benfleet to Matlock is largely on the M1.  Last time I travelled on the M1 it was a nightmare, but that was my fault for going on a Friday.

Are there any better times - Saturdays?  Mid week?

Friday night is probably the only guaranteed no-no. Been doing a lot of miles recently, including two trips, Sussex to Luton. So far everything has seemed a little lighter than pre-lockdown.

A lot of the M1 has roadworks ... worth checking on your GPS ..... early morning on a Sat has worked out OK for me recently going to Manchester

Yes, plot your journey on Google maps and play around with the departure/arrival times. Their data is understandably good (and a bit worrying).

Paul, if you do travel on a Saturday I recommend you factor a few extra minutes in for the final few miles in and out of Matlock. Especially if the weather is good. The A6 Derwent valley corridor is a main route in and out if the Peak District. Matlock Bath in particular can be a bottle-neck
