SfxSound (thumpinator) website down

Hi guys,

Three days ago I ordered a micro thumpinator through sfxsound.
I payed through paypal.

From that point on I have received no communication whatsoever so I was looking to contact Sfxsound today only to find that the website no longer exists.
Does anybody know what's going on here? I know Sfxsound aren't frauds, I am just afraid the company has gone out of business.

Do I retract my payment just to make sure or does anyone know how I can get in touch?

Thanks for any help.

the website is working fine for me from a computer that has never seen the website before, the order confirmation section of the FAQ states "

  • You will not receive any further communication from [sfx] until your product is ready.

if they are busy (and i think it's a one man operation) then it might be a few days before they get your order built and ready.

I have one of their pedals on my board (a prototype/custom Red dragon booster) thy are really great products, i would be tempted to wait a few more days if possible.

Hi Everybody

This is Max at [sfx]

Just a few words to assure you that everything at [sfx] is ok. We are operating normally (well... as much as we can given the problems we are all experiencing because of COVID-19).

The company that provides the website services to [sfx] is driving me insane. The website goes down unexpectedly and I'm working to get to the root of it.

Regarding the delivery time, confirmations and other details, you should be able to find all the info in the T&C page. If you need more details, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'll be happy to help.

Please accept my apologies for the problems the website stability is creating. I'm working on it.

I’ll just add that I recently bought an mD3 preamp from Max [sfx] which also has the Thumpinator with an on/off switch ..

I tested it by not just playing normal (soft & hard) but also tapping/hitting strings whilst muted as well & could definitely see a big difference in woofer excursion when engaged / disengaged but could not hear any discernible volume / tone difference :) .. well pleased (just need to make sure I always have it engaged lol) ... nice one Max !

Thank you for the kind words sifi2112.

I'm happy to hear that you enjoy using the D3,

Max contacted and reassured me that everything is OK, just the website is not.

After receiving his mail I further investigated the website with several browsers.
With Google Chrome it refuses to load. With Microsoft Edge (which I mostly ommit) it does work.

Google also tells me it is an unsafe site before it further refuses to load. Edit: It may be the Bitdefender AV plugin, too.

Anyway, thank you Max for clearing everything up and I am looking forward to receiving my micro thumpinator.

I am glad that everything has been resolved. Your micro-Thumpinator is on its way to you.

Regarding Chrome, I tested the website with Chrome and it works on my computer and tablet. I thing that your suspicion is probably correct: Bitdefender AV stops the website from loading. There should be a way to add an exception Bitdefender and allow your computer to load it.

Sadly adding the site to exceptions did not help.
There is something wrong with the security certificate on the website.

Edge and Chrome are now both blocking, even without Bitdefender interfering.
Chrome is telling me the cert is invalid.

Fine here on Firefox, says that the certificate is invalid but doesn't stop me going there.

Mind you, that is because I am going to http://www.sfxsound.com/home . If I went to the https site it wouldn't work as the certficate is invalid https://www.sfxsound.com/home/

I have the same issue on my site, with chrome it will default to going to an https site if you don't tell iit.

? Chrome and Firefox both open the SFX page ok here.

edit: like @Woodinblack said, it appears I was going to http://etc etc, not the https address.

Thank everybody for the interest you are showing in the [sfx] website.

Just a quick note about the website certificates. The website supports http but it does not support https. If one try to access the website via https, the browser shows and error (it should show a connection timeout but this is another thing that I am trying to address).

The reason why it does not support https is because it is not necessary. At any given time, there is no personal information that goes from the user to the website or vice versa. The content of the webpages is always the same – regardless who visits it. In other words, the webpages never show name, email address or any information about who visits the website. Equally, the website never asks name, email address or any other personal information.

Purchases are managed via the PayPal secure server via https protocol.

As I mentioned before, I am working with the company that provides the hosting for the website. I hope, in the next few weeks, to address the issues that emerged recently.

If you feel that my explanation is somehow unclear, please do contact me directly on the email address you can find on the website. I will be happy to discuss with you any technical detail that may interest you.
