And not plugged in or on a strap. Maybe it was the other guys.

Same here. Had so much fun learning those bass lines and playing those songs. At that town i wasnt a Jam/Weller fan so most of them were very new to me.

I love the bass line to Ghosts, never noticed it was fretless.

Ghosts is a great song and I always played my fretless on it

I thought it was a chorus pedal lol. I really didn’t know much about the Jam or Bruce back then.

That's why you shouldn't mark the fret positions 🙂

The clue to the bass is those brass 'coins' that anchor the strings, I just wish I could place them...

I was lucky enough to play in a Jam tribute for a bit. I realised then how much of an influence BF was to me. Most of the fills I would do were very similar to Bruces.

I've been in a Mod/Northern Soul/Ska band for the last four years and The Jam usually feature quite heavily. Pretty much the entire pool of songs we compile setlists from is bass heaven. Some great basslines around in the 70s/80s mod revival period.

Like it - I've never been able to play with a pick...

Off on a tangent, but several years ago, I photographed FTJ on several gigs

BF’s back line sounded epic, big Marshall stack if I remember right

I have a signed print if this photo I took!

There is 'this' much time left before Paul buggers off and forms The Style Council.

Bruce’s rig is at the rehearsal studio I use. Very nice it is too

Is it the Marshall VBA head & two VBC412 cabs, or his Ashdown rig?

It’s his Ashdown rig

ABM1300, 410 & 215. The 215 has favourite cab written on it in marker pen

Nice, I’ve heard both in action and quite typically for me the Ashdown wins it.

He was using the Marshall when I was pointing my camera at them, sounded great

Without a doubt a Jaydee - very early model too.  Probably a Jaydee Session bass and I would guess around 1980/1.
