Hi all,

Here's my 1983 JV Squier Jazz bass for sale. Lots of info on JVs at 21Frets if you're not familiar.

The headstock decal

Let's get the obvious thing out of the way first: the headstock has been refinished with Fender 'spaghetti' logo and the bridge has been replaced, long before I owned it.

You can see it has the JV serial on the neck plate. I've also seen the neck stamp and pencilled "January '83" date on the base of the neck when it was being set up by Andy Gibson on Denmark Street.

Apparently this modification was fairly common before JVs got their reputation, but nonetheless, I appreciate this puts it in the 'players' rather than 'collectors' category and have priced accordingly. I've checked with @ped that it's cool to sell here.

Everything else

On to the good stuff. It's in excellent condition for a 37 year old bass. There's some superficial dings and scratches on the body, neck and headstock, but nothing deep or severe. The frets are showing some wear. I've done my best to capture anything I can see in the pictures, but it's tricky as they're very light.

Electrics all working and it plays and sounds fantastic. I've recorded and gigged with it many times, and loved it dearly. The neck is a particularly good - I found it very forgiving, and I've got small hands.

It has vintage-style reverse wind tuners and includes an ashtray bridge and a modern Fender hard case. These were based on '62 Jazzes, and it has a lovely vintage vibe coupled with a reliable build.

I played it on this EP if you want an idea of the sound. Second and third tunes probably feature the bass most prominently (it's not exactly Pastorius, but you'll get the idea).

I'm selling as I'm a guitar player primarily, and no longer playing bass in bands, so it's been sat in a case for a year.

Trying/buying

Potential buyers welcome to view and try out in SE London (in as socially distanced a way as possible). I'll also ship to the UK, insured with UPS, for £25. I imagine postage to EU will be a bit more.

Thanks for reading, and happy to answer any questions.

Ben

PS if someone has a telecaster to trade, I'd listen!

Very nice, I’ve seen this one before - I may even have owned it I’ve had so many! I have both my JVs - a Precision and a Jazz and have owned them for more years than I care to remember. These are serious basses. Who buys this will not be disappointed.
