‘Do you do requests?’

- ‘Yeah, sure what do you want?’

’Do you know Sex on Fire?’

Facepalm🤦‍♂️

Saying that, I’d gladly play just Brightside and Sex on fire all night if it meant I was doing a gig.

Well I’m not in a gigging band at present but the question I really don’t miss from gigs is “do you reckon we’ll be home by 4 or 5am”.

Many moons ago I played in two bands which pretty much did similar sets, both of which did the songs mentioned above. Worse still, they were usually requested as encores 😱

But like @NoirBass says, I'd love to play them again in a band playing a gig.

"wonderwall!!!" said the little group of football fans..

we're an originals band playing a mix of ska/reggae/funk. The following four songs were introduced as "Wonderwall".

I'm missing packing the car, the travel, setting up, the challenge of making an audience like you enough to get them to come back next time, packing up, the travel home and unloading the car. IMO inane and nonsensical rubbish from drunk punters is par for the course and no more than water off a ducks back. I couldn't care less what they are asking for if I'm gigging.

Am I loud enough?  Guess who.

Will there be any space once the drummer has set up?

Is there really only one power socket?

Where's the singer? (normally during setting up, shortly before starting and after the mid set break)

Is that a new song? (the wife, after hearing us play it at the last 5 gigs)

ps I'd rather play Brightside or Sex on Fire than Are You Gonna Go My Way

NOT missing the following:

1. Me: Soundcheck?
Band: Nah, use our first number.

2. (Usually drunk, mostly female) punter: Can you play X, Y or Z?
Me: Ask the band.
Punter: The band? Oh. I thought *you* played the setlist [on the tablet]

3. (Generally male) punter, usually while we're grappling with DB feedback: That's a big cello.

BUT, I AM missing the following

1. Venue/pub manager to band: That was great, guys, perfectly balanced sound and volume.
@Happy Jack to manager: Thank our sound engineer for that...

2. Random punter(s) to me while I'm checking the sound levels in the crowd: I'm in a band, would you like to work with us as a sound engineer?

:D

I’ve been playing in a classic rock and metal band for many years, and our strap line is

“classic rock with balls- from AC/DC to zeppelin via sabbath and maiden”

there’s a definite theme/ era to what we do, however we often get the “do you do any Metallica?” Or 4 non blondes or even oasis.
🤷‍♂️🥱🙄

Even if they were allowed, nobody would have noticed us bass players anyhoo

Then again, is that something you miss or look forward to at a gig?

PS I don't believe that nobody notices the bass player, really. That will depend on so many factors, number of bandmates, attitude, the way you dress, etc. Or indeed whether you're playing an upright or a DB as opposed to a bass guitar... :)

"Hello mate, can I borrow your amp?"..... :/

Never tire of this. If a gear arrangement is made before the gig, fair enough. But to turn up to a gig and expect someone to lend you an amp is unprofessional and lazy.

My reply is always "I have a DI box you can use."
