This is a great guitar Then there is my bitsa strat, there with Uli. 1979 LP Deluxe My Gibson AFD Les Paul ( really good) There's a 67 SG jr, an old Ovation shallow bowl with cutaway, a couple of Vintage brand guitars (3 actually) I love em all Uli!!!! BigRedX Posted April 21, 2020 Share Posted April 21, 2020 I forgot about my oldest and perhaps most important guitar: A mid-70s Kimbara acoustic heavily modified. This was my 14th birthday present from my parents - the one time they supported my musical activities. When I wanted to go electric I couldn't afford a solid electric guitar and an amp, and I couldn't see any point in owning an electric guitar without some means of amplifying it. However I could afford an amp and a cheap piezo pickup for my acoustic so that's what I got. Later on still not being able to afford a proper electric guitar and not being particularly happy with the amplified sound via the piezo, I added the Schaller magnetic pickup. It was supposed to be attached to the end of the fingerboard, but I didn't much care for the sound I was getting in that position. However there was sufficient room between the top and the strings to squeeze it in at the bridge so that's what I did held in place with double-sided tape and still in position over 40 years later. The piezo was moved to underneath the bridge inside the guitar and both were attached to a TRS jack socket on the side. This connected by a two-conductor and earth cable to a footswitch that allowed me to switch between the two pickups and a second footswitch routed the signal to either the bright or normal input on my amp. I later added a Practical Electronics fuzz-box circuit between the two switches and this was my guitar set up until I completed my self-built solid electric during my final year at school. 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
sykilz Posted April 21, 2020 Share Posted April 21, 2020 I am an awful guitar player...'agricultural' is a term I would use to describe my level of finesse, however I love ploughing out some power chords and riffs, and recently got one of these on a whim because I was 50. It's only an Epiphone but with a set up it plays very nicely so I can't blame the awful racket it makes on anything but myself. The electric is a parts guitar; Guitarbuild Jazzmaster body, Fender MIM Tele Deluxe neck, Duncan Jazz model bridge humbucker and a neck single coil I wound myself. It gets plugged into either of two amps I built. One is based on a Fender Princeton Reverb, the other is Marshall flavoured with added reverb. The acoustic is a Kalamazoo KG-21 from 1936. For acoustics I have a Martin 0018 and a Martin Parlour made around 1840. I love Gibsons with P90s. I had an SG Classic, a SG Junior and an Epi Casino all with Gibson P90s. Wish I’d kept them! uk_lefty Posted April 21, 2020 Share Posted April 21, 2020 I've had various acoustic guitars since the age of 17. Started bass at 15. Wanted acoustics for writing... So I had a cheap acoustic, then a good solid top Tanglewood electro acoustic that stayed with me for a lot of years until buying a Fender Sonoran electro acoustic (the one with the start style headstock) which I've had for something like 6 years now. It's sound isn't as sophisticated as the old Tanglewood but it feels much nicer on the neck. I don't do much other than open chords and a bit of fingerpicking, I've avoided trying to play any kind of lead guitar. I've recently bought a Squier CV Tele after hearing rave reviews. It's pretty good but I don't quite get the fuss, maybe because I'm not a guitarist! I might do a bit of rhythm guitar in a mates band when the virus situation changes but would need to really up my game. My DC727 came from Gumtree and belonged to Joaquin Ardiles of Good Tiger, formerly of The Safety Fire. My first LB75 (all-black, ebony board, J-MM pickups) I bought here on Basschat for a very low price because it had some damage to the finish. My B4 also came from Basschat. My latest LB75 was customized, and I didn't like it. Beautiful flamed walnut top and a hidden neck-through, but it just didn't feel right. The previous owner had the lacquer on the neck removed and the neck profile shaved and then tung-oiled, and failed to mention this in the ad. Our guitarist bought the same SG (Pelham Blue/P90s) and whilst a lovely guitar some bozo at the factory glued the string post ferrules into the headstock and when he changed machines this meant part of the headstock front tore removing said ferrules - the stock tuners are pretty nasty. Fortunately he has a good luthier and things were quickly resolved and you've never know there was ever a problem. Gison QC is, it would appear, just as bad as it ever was. Tried a new Kiesel Vader a friend from France had last year and I really liked that a lot.. Am contenting myself with doing my Resto Project at home. Sounds harsh, and a touch unfair. But yeah, Bozo comes to mind for doing that! The previous ones were well known for other issues, much more apparent than a glued in ferrule. Those big issues ‘seem’ to be sorted i.e. finish, frets, truss etc, hard to say, or critique, based on one experience. I’ve had no issues with my machine heads. Cool. I only got on acoustic guitar and bass so when money got tight I flogged everything bar the one electric guitar I considered probably the most versatile - the MIJ Strat. That's my Peavey Tracer - I think a Tracer II - bought from my nephew coz I'm such a cool maddafakka dad rocker! 😁 It's now with its original owner, and I guess I'll never get it back. Good thing though, a real musical instrument - not a toy.
