S'odd; I was just thinking, as I posted it, that this might appeal to @ambient..! :friends:

This thread is topical for me as I've just been learning this. Bass solo from 3.07, but great all the way through. Don't care what anyone else thinks, I love it.

I really like the below solo from Marcus Miller (21 at the time). It's a lovely, lyrical fretless solo on a Dave Grusin recording, 'Friends & Strangers'.

(I'm not sure about the Album cover though...:D)

Solo at 2:52.

This is one of my favorites. Kicks in around 5.00 mark through to the end.

I like the solo in this.
But I love the song itself, so perhaps that helps me, as I would still love the song if there was a Bavarian ankle tuba solo instead.

apologies for no images of the bassist playing. You’ll have to imagine them.

This song reminds me of one of the bands I play in (and hopefully will do again when all this virus thing is over)  - a semi-acoustic trio: vocals/guitar/bass. The guitarist recently suggested I play the solos on bass while he concentrates on his fiddly travis picking or whatever. We're only talking a few bars here and there, but I'm starting to get used to it.

I played briefly for a Free tribute band. That was one of the songs in their set.

Here’s a master of both soloing and solo bass.

I've posted this before; Jack Casady going beyond, as is his wont, often enough. Patience, it's worth it; kicks in for real around 3'30"...

Nice. To me this will always be the money standard for JC though:

Solo starts at around 3:20.

How about something older from Domenico Dragonetti?

Jazz bassists? Mingus, Marc Johnson...

Live vs. studio solo?

Astonishing :o

Someone on fb has suggested that this is the greatest bass solo ever

Looks like that bloke wanted a guitar and someone bought him a bass. Followed by noise. Bet he’s a good drummer.

You don't mind your own (bass solos and farts) but you really don't want to have to endure someone else's. 😂

Spot on, sir. This, in a nutshell, is the difference between bass players' view of bass solos and that of the rest of humanity. I'm with the rest of humanity on this one.

Sounds like he's fallen down the stairs while holding a bass between his legs.

I wouldn't think there is ever the greatest bass solo ever but this is one of my favourites.
