Useful Truss Rod Tool ... Fender Mustang / Jazz / P-Bass

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Some might have seen this useful tool from Stu Mac call the 'Truss Rod Crank for Tele'. It makes Fender truss rod adjustment much easier if you have the cross slot style access at the neck heel ...

Down side its a 'tad' pricey for a small bent piece of toughened steel !!

Up side you can make simple neck adjustments without taking the neck off or loosening the screws ... you could also make your own if you have the know how.

I use mine on my Fender JMJ and Performer Mustangs although some Jazz and Precisions have the same slots

I picked up my daphne blue JMJ up for a steal (less than £600 used) ...

... although pick up might be a bit of a problem at the moment! Definitely worth looking around

That’s an absolute bargain.

Has anyone tried both the Vintera and JMJ Mustang basses? If you have, are the neck profiles the same? Looking at the specs on Fenders website they have different radius fret boards which I don't mind but it's more how chunky the neck on the Vintera is that I'm curious about. They both appear to have the same nut width, 41mm and both are described as being "60's C shape". Are they essentially the same neck?
I tried a mates JMJ a couple of weeks ago and loved the chunkier neck which felt way more substantial than the slimmer profile on my Mexican PJ Mustang. But I'm not overly fussed about the road worn finish, I much prefer the sea foam green or red Vintera finishes. If the Vintera neck is the same as the JMJ (other than fret board radius) then I might go for one of those. Anyone tried both? How do they compare?

Up for grabs is a brand new, never fitted pearloid scratch plate (or pick guard if you prefer!) for a Fender Mexican PJ Mustang.
It has not been fitted to a bass and it still has the protective plastic film over it.
£20 posted within the UK please, or £15 collected from sunny Wellingborough.
      Pictures imminent.

      Hi all,
Up for sale is my lovely Fender JMJ Road Worn Mustang. Unfortunately due to a big car bill I've had to put this up, so ideally I won't be considering any trades.
The bass is currently strung with D'addario tapewounds, however I also have a set of flatwounds which I can include with the bass.
It plays absolutely beautifully and sounds really great; very fat round tone but plenty of bite if you need it too.
      Comes with a gig bag.
Collection from Winchester, I'd prefer not to post it as I only have a soft case for the bass but I'm sure I could sort something if needs be.
      Thanks, Jonny
