Mike Lull

Recommended Posts

Just seen that Bryan Beller has reported that Mike Lull has passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.

I haven’t noted this in the thread title, just as new details come through. But yes, very sad if true, clearly one of the most respected builders in the world.

Very sad news, his basses are so well loved and respected the world over. :(

Bloody awful. I’ve been a Lull fan since about 1997 because they were seen as part of the upper echelons of super J’s and that’s when I started playing.

Owned a lull for a good while, and it was brilliant.

I am SO sorry to read this. I was really hoping to meet him, perhaps at this year's NAMM, but it never happened.

Problem is, he wasn't at NAMM this year. We searched the exhibitor list but couldn't find him anywhere. :(

What awful news.

Today I was the lucky purchaser of @Happy Jack ‘s PT4 which should land with me early next week. Last night I was exchanging emails with the Lull company, asking questions about the model, YOM etc. 😪

Just read the news. Very sad!

I'll be thinking of him tomorrow when playing my M4V at a gig.

Thank you for the music Mike, may you rest easy in Master Luthier heaven!

He was a true gent. Messaged me about the bass I pictured above personally. Made me feel part of his family- even though he didn’t owe me anything.

Very sad news, I have owned 3 of his basses and the necks were probably the best I have ever played. RIP Mike😢

This is shocking news. I'm stunned.

I've been playing a Mike Lull PJ5 for 8 years and it's one of the best basses I've picked up.

I've seen the guys in the shop are going to carry on. Excellent news.

6Just read this on Facebook.  Awful news.

I've got a pair of Lulls, profess I didn't really know about his stuff until a few years ago, but it was (on paper at least) good enough for me to move away from many Gibsons to a couple of his.

Amazing basses, not once have I felt the need to move them on to get something else.

Rest peacefully chap.

So sad 😞

I went to his workshop a few years back, he was a perfect host and clearly a warm and genuine guy. Just for fun, Mike was excitedly asking me to try an original 57 P Bass he was working on, which I did, but I was more excited about playing his own P Bass and the beauties hanging on the wall.

I owned a few of Mike’s basses, there’s one I really shouldn’t have let go of in hindsight as I sold it for a more expensive vintage bass I couldn’t really afford, @Andy has her now :(

RIP Mike

What tragic news, thoughts with his family.

The Lulls I've tried have all been astonishingly good instruments and the T pickups he designed are some of the best I've ever heard.

Could always put that one right for you Daniel - I'm just starting to thin out my newer gear in favour of vintage so it could be available for you if you're really missing it!
